Sorry for the downtime today

I take this extremely seriously, and I'll share as much information as I'm given from the datacenter when it comes in.

This is Strike 1 against https://www.dreamhost.com/cloud/computing/

As always, if MVS is down or suffering sporadic performance, you can find the latest information at the MVS Facebook page.

"The server issue you were experiencing is resolved, there was an issue
with the file system. Typically to resolve that detach the volume from
the current instance, attach it to a temporary instance, do an fsck and
then create a new instance using the fsckd volume as the root drive. Our
Cloud Engineers went ahead and took care of this for you as it was a
backend issue in this case."

There it is.

I was initially able to ssh in to the machine, but unable to write to files... hallmark of a disk problem. The inability to write to files was very alarming. Things are significantly very bad when that happens.

Then I lost the ability to stay ssh'ed into the server, and attempts at reconnecting/rebooting from the Web interface failed. This is when it had been down for an hour already. Then there was nothing to do but pace and wait for a response to my support ticket.

I'm out of my league with hardware problems, that's why I pay services (was Rackspace, now Dreamhost) to do the hardware thing. I do the software thing. You guys do the MVS user thing. Everybody's happy and the wheels of Volvo help turn smoothly.
