Poor Quality Genuine Volvo Parts

Post by PCC »

I have talked with several dealer parts managers and several independent shops and they all say that the factory Volvo parts made after 2000 are sub standard. In 2001 I replaced my 1994 940 water pump with a Volvo part purchased from a Volvo dealer. My pump was still good but with 114,000 miles on it I decided to replace it along with all the hoses and the leaking radiator. After 52,000 miles it started leaking from the weep hole in the bottom, the bearing was still good and there was no sound. There was a large pile of rust on the steel impeller blade (the original one was a cast aluminum) but other than that it looked fine. At 116,000 miles I had the dealer replace the timing belt and the bearing, after 40,000 miles the bearing started to make a loud noise and I had to replace it. The factory recommended replacement time is with every second belt, that means it should have last AT LEAST 100,000 miles. Thanks Ford!
