Great car.
We used to have a 2013 2.4. Great car. It only had a couple small issues here and there. The radio cut out every now and again and the transmission temp sensor went out, but that was fixed under warranty.
I'm still active on the Hyundai forums though (my mom still has a 2013 Elantra) and there have definitely been many, many issues with this recall.
I think it's because of the GDI and rings that aren't designed for it. Fuel blows by the weak rings, thins the oil, and there go the bearings. It's unfortunate that Hyundai didn't prepare the whole engine for direct injection instead of essentially threading new injectors into the old MPI Theta 4 cylinder from the last Sonata. They're great cars otherwise. Pretty quick off the line for 190 hp in the PZEV model we had. Still not as quick as my GLT :D

Back on thread, I have no issue mixing oil type, but do try to keep the viscosity the same mix. I mainly only do this for top up between services, when like you I am trying to use up left over new oil in containers.

Only problem is my cars don't seem to use much oil between services!

I use my 10w30 synthetic to top off and I run 0w40 synthetic currently. Only reason I'm using a different viscosity to top it off is because I had it on the shelf from when I used to run 10w30.
After reading around on BITOG, I'm not too worried about it since I only have a couple ounces of that oil left. I should be making the full switch to Mobil 1 0w40 in the next 800 or so miles!

So far no recalls on our 2009. The upholstery is a bit cheap. The paint and whatever primer, etc. is under it is a bit cheap. We have a few tiny rust spots from stone chips. Cars just don't rust in Atlanta. All four of the steel wheels have rusted. That said, it rolls on trouble free so far. I can live with the cosmetic issues. It leaks a little coolant from the hose at the radiator filler cap - one day I'll fix that. It has started making sewing machine noises from the engine like valve lifters or something. It has also started burn a quart of oil every 3000 miles - nothing crazy.

If you remember Hyundais were the poster child of crap cars back when they were introduced. Maybe better than a Yugo. A real success story.

I remember that very well, tell my kids about it, and sometimes can't believe that I bought one.
Clearly, they and Japan have perfected the methods for process improvement whereas
the US and Germany have not.
I'm an EE and while we studied the literature from Japan, it is not applied effectively.
