Hello Forum readers,
I recently replaced my 2005 Volvo XC90 Oil Pump Seal, Gasket and O-ring. I aligned TDC along with proper Cam Tick mark alignments. I replaced the spark plugs, just because it was due in addition to a new battery. I Assembled belts back then I removed #1 plug, then manually rotated the Cam Pulley to get some oil pumped through and to ensure everything is moving correctly. Everything rotates with no abnormal resistance. I Re-installed everything back....Its go time and all should be good....
Unfortunately the engine will not turn over..I am concerned I might have rotated something from the oil pump that I shouldn't have?, but not sure. Here is a clip of what it sounds like when trying to start it:

Don't panic yet. Retrace your steps maybe something was not re-connected?

Can you have a helper verify that the crank is moving while you're cranking? They should be able to see the power steering pump and such spinning while you crank if the serpentine belt is hooked up. It almost sounds like the starter isn't engaging the flywheel or sort of the sound I'd expect if the spark plugs were all missing. Did you remove the starter at all? Are the camshaft sensors connected?
If everything checks out I'd pull it apart again, rotate it to TDC, and make sure the cams are still aligned as they should be.
I'm guessing the oil pump isn't to blame. If you had assembled it wrong the worst that should happen is you don't get any oil pressure or you'd have a massive leak. It shouldn't be responsible for a no-ignition condition.
If everything checks out I'd pull it apart again, rotate it to TDC, and make sure the cams are still aligned as they should be.

If that car in the video is yours - it sounds like it is turning over and has no compression. I am responding as if it is turning over - just not starting. Please clarify.
I did the same work on a 2001 XC70 2.4T. If you have the 2.5T it is basically the same job.
Essentially it is a timing belt change as to what components are involved timing wise. As I recall you time up the engine, remove "stuff", remove timing belt, and then take out the pump and fix "stuff". Installation is reverse. Taking care you do the "stuff" correctly.
Could you be 180 degrees out of time on one or both of your cams? I see you mention you manually turned the cam pulley - that may be your issue. Can you provide more details as to what was and was not on the engine when you did this? Did you mean I had the belt on, it was properly timed, and I turned the crank bolt to turn the engine over?
I hope you didn't bend a valve. Have you tried a compression test? Double check all your marks and check your compression. Only other things is your spark plugs are not on tight enough.
