I thought the 98 T5s came with a 16T stock. The 18T is supposedly a pretty safe upgrade path with an off-the-shelf tune and stock guts. 19Ts start wrecking stuff unless you have careful adjustment of your boost map.

Yes, white injectors and 16t are stock for a 98 V70 T5.

Since you're going to juice up performance parts, you'll want to give due respect to the bottom end—crank journals and bearings.

When I rebuilt my 96 850 turbo, I found that the factory rod bearings were in excellent shape but they lacked the corner dimple that prevents the bearing from slipping round the journal and ruining the journal. What's curious is the bearing cap has the notch for a dimpled insert so it's not clear why inserts to match were not used especially on turbo models.

While you're investing so much in the rest of the job that you might want to upgrade to bearing inserts that are rated for high performance and do have the dimple to lock them in place.

You might as well mic up the journals while you have easy access to everything—and pistons and cylinders while you're at it.

This engine rebuild tutorial has some useful hints as to those details:

OP is just freshening up with nearly stock parts, the altered intake and exhaust will open it up a little but not do that much. The turbo and tune are totally stock. So I'm not seeing any good reason to work on the bottom end, which is rock solid in these white block engines. Enlighten me!

My local Volvo shop has had some mechanic issues and there’s only one guy working there now..... Anyway, the old engine was finally removed this week and he’ll be checking to see the condition of the clutch and redo the rear main seal. I hope next week the car is close to being done.

I also picked up some Bilstien TC shocks that were on sale. I hope to get working on the suspension once the car is driveable. I noticed the shocks are original... 200k.

My mechanic finally finished.
I pick it up tomorrow new shocks, clutch, head gasket. However I also bought a 88 E28 recently. Not sure I’m going to keep the Volvo.

You are either a BMW or a Volvo person. You have to choose. If you try to fake being a Volvo, you end up boasting about your non- running R in your driveway while we are out chasing June in our Volvos. ( Don't worry MIKE, no one is catching her)

#fun

Good luck with your cars!! It's a good sign when a shop is backed up.
