Hi everyone,

Im beating a dead horse here, but im on my last limb and need some advice..

I got a 99 s70 awd turbo, it was ready for the junkyard. Put a new v70 rear sub frame in, all new v70 painted/coated fuel lines and replaced fuel pump, cam sensor, fuel pump relay, and main relays with junkyard parts. The car ran beautifully for me but on my way home one day on the highway, randomly stalled and lost all throttle response. It would only crank and nothing else. The codes read were o2 sensors before the car stalled out like this. I didnt get to replacing them yet.

I now bought a yellow tagged etm used online, installed it and still just cranking. The codes read after starting were p0238, i pushed in the sensor on the charge pipe and that went away. I tried putting 4 gallons of gas in and now the car will turn over and stall out immediately.
The antenna ring was pulled and looks to be in great shape.
Mass air flow unplugged, and still does the same thing.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance
Larry

I checked the maf. Car has a new etm, 12v to the etm.
The car is definitely getting fuel pressure and the relay is good.
I pulled all the plugs and were all sparking and in good condition.
The timing was spot on and belt teeth were in good shape.
And i imagine im getting compression by the way the car ran before.
Some codes that were pulled in between all of this are: p0013, p0238, p0036, p0134, p0136.
The cam position sensor was pulled and a junkyard one in good shape was installed and the car ran good. O2 sensors are still not changed.

How long did the car run beautifully before the problems occurred?

Odd that....

You mentioned 'it was ready for the junkyard'. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Meaning, issues/gremlins the previous owner didn't want to deal with?

'99s are quite a different animal electrically from my '98. You'd be wise to search back threads. I recall one guy pulled his ECM, got another from a junker, and sent both off to be cloned. It solved his problem! His too was a '99 I think.

At idle the control system is in closed-loop mode. Any engine needs, air, fuel, spark & timing to run. I'd suggest a fault tree to be sure all is covered in the correct order and to prevent chasing-your-tail in frustration.

Keep at it and good luck!

Thank you for the advice

If the air fuel sensor just died out while i was driving, do you think that could explain why the car just immediately died? Maybe thats why it wont hold idle now due to the closed loop system you mentioned. Ive never heard of a car not starting from an air fuel sensor, but then again seeing what else volvo has done with these things, im not sure what to think anymore lol.

If it starts then stalls in a second, that's how the immobilizer works on a 99

Turn the ignition to on, and listen fir 8 second whine, then click. If you don't get this, you have to get a new combination of ECU , ETM, and software

I tried listening for the click after the fuel pump prime(which is what I assume you were talking about) and did not hear any clicking noise. I used to here a bunch of clicking noises every now and again when priming right near the etm but now with this new etm I bought I dont hear that anymore. the two attachments I included are the stickers if that helps. the white sticker is the original etm and the yellow one is the new one I bought. The yellow came off of a 2001 v70 2.5T and mine is a 99 s70 awd turbo.
