1997 855 GLT Died

Post by HareBall »

I was cruising down the interstate earlier today and everything was running good. Then all of the sudden my car just quit. It was like someone had turned off the fuel to it. It would barely idle when I got off to the side of the road and then it just quit altogether starting. It turns over just fine and I have all the dash lights. I checked for a code and I got a 0 for no codes.
Please help, it is about 70 miles away.

One more question. What would happen if I were to put a jumper across the 2 places where the contacts are that feed the fuel pump? I am looking at the wiring diagram from the 1995 service manual posted here and it looks like all the realay does is turn the fuel pump on and off. I need to know, because even though MIJ gave me his spare, he also told me it might not be good either. So, I might be heading back to my car with two bad relays :(

Larry, I would just be concerned with some type of spark.

I'd say the relay is good, but never tested it. It came to me free from a member here.

Well after I called you and said I was on my way home, I got about 15 miles and it stopped again. I waited a little while and It ran about 5 more miles. Waited again and got about 20 more miles. One more time and it is still sitting between Oak Ridge and Kingston on the side of the road. It will not even try to start now. I checked the valve at the end of the fuel rail and got mostly air from it with a little spray of gas(very little). I am starting to think it is the fuel filter. Where is the filter located on these cars?

I know this probably sound dumb, but where in da back? I am trying to get into my copy of VADIS and can't remember the password or user ID. So, it is difficult to look it up.
