If you can't afford the repair or even a tow, why bother drive it to a shop? Just drive until it dies.

I replaced a rear arm on a 2001 V70 2.4T a few months ago which has the lower spring support. The towing guy used the aforementioned arm to pull the car up onto the tow truck ramp because of a collapsed front ball joint after a road accident and bent it badly.

Spring was released to do this job of course. It required 2 persons at the very end to use a long lever/bar to place the suspension back to where we could reach all threads. Not a light hearted exercise by any means and around 3 hours of work. Certainly not worth half of the $3,000 quoted. 4 hours including the spring should come to around $700; no more.

Unless you had awd on your 2.4T they look quite different as far as I know. Without the awd I agree that it's a doable but awkward procedure.

Shop time on AWD varies by around 2 hours more than FWD. So we're up to $900-$1,000 maximum.

I've got a pair of Kilen 66024 springs (heavy duty) shipped from UK for $175, delivered within 48 hours to my door. Maybe 2 hours job to replace one yourself if you have basic tools and a spring compressor. Rear is not more difficult than front.

OE spring is about $130/piece.

Yes, raised back will change camber, which nobody aligns, and toe too, which is better to align or risk excessive tire wear and pull to side.
