convince me it's worth fixing my headlight wipers (98 S70) Topic is solved

Last night after leaving work, I found my passenger side wiper hanging from the hose on my '98 S70, and I'm debating whether or not I care enough about it to actually replace it instead of just deleting the visible broken parts and plugging the hose.

looks like I can get parts to replace the arms,wipers, heads, and Blades for both sides for about $60 from iPD.

I guess maybe I should start by determining if the Headlight wiper motors still work, because I really don't think that I'm willing to shell out over $200 to fix something that can be broken again the next time an SUV backs into me while I'm parked on the street.

If you live in the north (or anywhere that gets a lot of snow and salt) then I'd suggest it.

Otherwise, I'd just remove the arms and call it a day.

Get everything from some junkyard or eBay. Otherwise it`s too expensive.

I replace both headlight wiper motors on my '98 C70. The one on the left side is easy to replace ( drivers side on left hand drive cars), the one on the right side takes some time to do because you got to take a lot of stuff off to get to the motor.

If you to pull used motors, here is a tip, the left and right wiper motors are identical. However to use a motor pulled from one side of the car on the other side of the car, you need to open the back of the motor and shift the internal transmission of the wiper motor .. so the arm will turn the correct direction.

Go to Wal-mart purchase one of those packs of googly eyes, now place one on the car on the headlight where the wiper setup is basically dead. Tell them the car has been improved with "A EYE" and watch them think you now have artificial intelligence in the car. Sit and watch in wonder as they all want to drive it and figure out what it does. Ask them if they noticed any additional power... Some will.

For the record, I'm the same guy that has previously placed notes on paper towel dispensers at the job (typically manual, some motion activated) that say it's now voice activated... I'm also the guy that noticed some of the signs near the elevators showed the person running towards the fire rather than away from it. That wasn't my work. Never anything dangerous...

I just have the high pressure headlamp washers (not with wipers) and I'm thinking about placing some sort of in-line switch so I can turn the HP pump off during the summer. It works great for clearing salt spray during the winter but in summer it does nothing to clear bugs and just amounts to excessive/unnecessary washer fluid use. I would imagine the headlamp wipers tend to mostly just smear them around. I was used to getting through an entire spring/summer/fall season on 1-2 gallons of washer fluid on my old car. On this one with the headlamp washers it's more like a gallon/month.
