Swedish Car Parts strut quality

Post by kahl »

I recently bought and installed a heater core from Sweedish Car Parts and it fit like a glove. Seems like a very quality product. I was browsing their site and they are selling a pair of struts for the 850 series for $95.00. They call it their house brand. They are claiming the struts are a OEM replacement.

Has anyone tried these inexpensive struts?

I was just browsing and wondered the same thing. Did you get any response for this question?

I installed them on one of the 98V70AWD about 20K miles ago. Still firm and no leakage. To me they feel slightly firmer that the Sachs. I think it is a good budget purchase.

When you did the job, did you purchase all the other components on a budget too? I am slowly accumulating parts to do the job and wondering where working on a budget is ok and where one should definitely purchase Volvo or OEM products. Thank you.

If you're also installing new spring seats and bearing plates, save up and use OEM Volvo parts.
Aftermarket is very hit (at best) and miss, so you don't want to do this twice!
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Agreed. My cousin just snapped a stud on his aftermarket eBay strut mount.

Go with the Volvo parts as JRL has recommended. FCP has a Volvo bearing plate and mount kit for $150.00.

FWIW i bought the least expensive parts I could find for this car. That eBay lister German auto hauls had a suspension lit for $169.00. The kit included inner and outer tie rods, control arms, bearing plate, strutmount and sway bar links. This is my back up wagon and I am the only one who drives this car. I just wanted to see how inexpensive I could go for a suspension. As bmdubya implied these kits are of unknown quality. At the last inspection in September I was shocked that the suspension was still tight.
The other 4 P80 wagons got the Volvo bearing plate and strut mount, Merle HD control arm, inner and outer tie rods and sway bar links. Also the Sachs strut.

I also have Meyle HD control arms, sway bar links, and inner and outer tie rods. I used the same eBay strut mounts as my cousin, and I haven't had any issues with them yet. But like I said, I would recommend getting better quality than eBay off-brand parts. I plan on changing them out again anyway when I upgrade to Koni struts and lowering springs.
I got a kit from AM Autoparts on eBay that included spring seats and strut mounts, it was only about $65.

That's similar to the one I got. The one I got has a 10 year warranty.
