Only jimmy57 or Doublebug can answer this one for me.
Doublebug is both a Volvo module repairer and programmer.
Jimmy is a mature dealer tech.
I could be wrong (unlikely in this instance)
Let's bring them in to the discussion.
And yes the thread shows no evidence or quotation from Vida.

Quoted from Vida:
The supplemental restraint system module (SRS) either deploys the airbags or the seat belt tensioners. This depends on whether:
if the driver and front passenger are wearing seat belts or not
if there is a fault in the side impact sensor or the connection to the side impact sensor
if there is a fault in the seat belt buckles
if Controller area network (CAN) communication is not working.
As a result of the above conditions, in the event of a low speed collision the seat belt tensioner may deploy on the driver's side whilst the airbag is deployed on the passenger side.
The SRS indicator lamp lights when the ignition is switched on. If no faults are registered by the control module, either internally or from the sensors, wiring or igniters, a signal is transmitted on the controller area network (CAN) to the driver information module (DIM) confirming that the SRS indicator lamp can be switched off. If there is a fault, the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) transmits information to the driver information module (DIM) indicating which lamp should be lit and the text to be displayed in the combined instrument panel.
The driver information module (DIM) continuously transmits information to the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control module via the controller area network (CAN) about the status of the SRS indicator lamp.
If the SRS indicator lamp stops functioning, the orange or red light in the general warning lamp is used instead.
Note that after a collision, it may be necessary to replace the wiring for the airbags and seat belt tensioners which deployed. This is because the connectors may melt at the moment of deployment. If a connector has melted, the wiring adjacent to it must be replaced.
On P3s the system is totally down unless reset by scanner.
Personally I would not chance it. As I said if safety not a concern then why drive a Volvo?

Big translation. We have no idea how this system faults.
Executive summary. Light on, fix it.

We could always do a test dummy application. Anyone with a "SRS AIRBAG SERVICE REQUIRED URGENT" message will need to apply in writing to:
Volvo Cars America
TEST DUMMIES UNITED
Cranial & upper spinal injury department
Rockleigh NJ
07647 USA
Naturally they will take 4-6 weeks to return any correspondence and an executive decision will only be made in Gothenburg if the application fulfills all applicable criteria.

This is not a true statement.
It "might" be non-operational indeed... but is probably still fine in most cases.
Just go get it checked out when you can.

I texted Doublebug through Viber the other morning and he indicated there are situations in which the airbag system will still fire with the message on a P2. Vida doesn't really help here. He also mentioned many cases of airbags firing with tiny collisions with or without messages on the DIM.
So far I have not found direct words about whether SRS is off if any error codes present in Vida.
I have never left this message unattended in any of our 4 owned P2 Volvos.
I have a wife and 2 small kids that ride/drive in them and don't want to be a widow because I'm pretty hopeless in the kitchen.
Because no conclusive data/evidence has been submitted on the topic from the posts you provided that makes me "the glass is half empty" kind of guy when it comes to the safety of our family.
It's a bit like saying keep those bald tires on the car and hope it doesn't rain or go to the market to buy chocolate biscuits when you know there's a cocoa shortage (in fact that thought is actually frightening me more than I Imagined).

The official MVS position is that an SRS light disables your airbag from correct operation, as we no direct evidence to the contrary from Volvo sources.

VIDA does not give the works vs doesn't work info now. I recall, but can't verify it, that the system is functional when all signals are present and all circuits are intact. The SRS system only self extinguishes warning lamp for low or high voltage, in all other cases the light remains on until you clear the system regardless if the circuits and signals are all restored. The correct way to handle it is to get it fixed. If you unplugged the CCM and interrupted the CAN network and then restored it but at the same time you had without knowing also cut or chafed an active inflator circuit lead then you would have no airbag function when you thought you would. Could be a fatal error.
