Which AUTEL do you have?

And throw it away.

With all the squeaks and creaks coming from the dash, I worry that I might break a little piece of plastic and create a dozen more!

Does anyone know whether one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/VOLVO-Check-Eng ... Swm8VUw1pk will do the job to reset the service light on my 96 850 Turbo?

Before I go spending money on it ....

Thanks!

Don't believe this will do it. There is a more expensive one that FCP Euro sells that may do it. There used to be several
Chinese products that claimed to do this also.

Any idea which Chinese product? Or a lead on the FCP Euro device?

Thanks!

$200 at FCP, https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... elektronik

Or throw away the bulb. Or be patient - the Service light only illuminates for the first few minutes of each trip.

It's probably been mentioned but Vol-fcr will erase the service light and all codes except ACC (and another thing I've forgotten). The software is available online (and I really don't believe Volvo really is concerned if this 22 year old and outdated software is shared among DIYers...). You also need a VAG comport and a OBD2-cable with the proper chip (there are two sorts).

OK...what if you have both the OBDI boxes under the hood ( passenger side, boxes A&B, with the fly lead) AND an OBDII port under the coin tray/radio area? The OBDI steps do not work, and my scan tool (includes software for the 1995 850 GLT) will not erase either. Thoughts on how to proceed (aside from removing the bulb, lol)?

Not sure about 850. I thought "dealer only" erase was something special for 1998 and after much hate from public they realized that they can't sell cars as it is and don't need more hate, so for 1999 it was back to manual reset through odometer button. When I had my 98v70xc I bought tool that rspi showed in his post above and it was working flawlessly(minus the buttons were falling off, but pencil worked all the time). Maybe worth asking dealer about your specific vin option and see if they know more about it?
