2004 V70R Rear wiper motor gear mesh
I have a 2004 V70R that has a rear wiper that doesn't move. I know this is a common issue, usually tied to the wiper shaft being frozen/rusted up and binding. I bought the car used about 4yrs ago and the rear wiper never moved. If you accidentally hit the rear wiper button, the motor would go on but the arm wouldn't move. Upon investigation (I didn't remove the wiper arm) I found that the gear mesh between the wiper worm gear and the nylon gear that it rotates is not meshing. Aside from replacing the entire motor-gearbox, has anyone tried to adjust the motor somehow to regain gear mesh? I am tempted to disassemble the entire unit and make some bushings or remove the motor and fill the holes that the motor shaft goes through with JB Weld and re-drill them. Has anyone attempted this or gotten this issue resolved without replacing the entire unit? Thanks.

Just finished disassembling the gearbox and removing the shaft for the wiper arm. The large white nylon gear that drives the linkage for the arm shaft was stripped in one spot. I ended up removing all of the parts and cleaning them along with the housing and polishing the wiper arm shaft and the motor shaft (motor needs to be disassembled to do this). Just as a side note: if you remove the armature of the motor and need to reinstall it into the main gearbox housing where the motor brushes are, use large un-crimped staples to keep the brushes and brush springs compressed while you slip the armature in. You may also want to keep your finger pressed on the worm gear part of the motor shaft so the magnets in the motor case don't pull the armature out while you remove the staples. It worked well for me.
I haven't done any investigation yet, but does anyone know if the white gear can be purchased by itself anywhere? Thanks.

Just purchased a white gear from e-bay. Seller seems to make them using the 3D printing process. It's coming from Finland and I should have it in a few weeks. You will need to reuse the brass electrical contact plate that is fastened with 4 tabs that are bent through 4 holes on the your old gear.

Update on 3D gear:
It worked fine until I let my sister-in-law borrow the car last winter. I think she turned the rear wiper on while it was frozen to the rear window, when I brought it home a few months later, the rear wiper gear was stripped out and the front air dam was ripped where it supposedly got caught on someone's driveway.
Moral of this story: Don't lend your vehicle to someone who isn't prepared to buy it! In this case, the old saying holds true about getting something for free and not appreciating it. Sometimes you need to be kicked in the crotch to remember this.
All in all, you're probably better off finding a good used assembly that has little wear or replacing the gear with a factory unit. I think the factory one is a little tougher material.

A printer that does metal gears could work better. But then the motor might just burn up instead.
My Finnish 3D printed gear has worked for a year and a half so far. I've turned off the reverse auto wipe to lower the risk of ruining it again.
