Volvo 244GL power upgrade

Hello, I own a Volvo 244GL in Australia. It uses the B23E 2316cc 4 cylinder engine using mechanical injection, with 136hp. The engine has done 300,000km (185,000 miles) I am looking for about 170-180hp from this engine without turbocharging or supercharging, and i am on a budget.

What do you suggest?

Your desired final HP would require about 1.25HP per cubic inch displacement, anything over 1HP per cubic inch on a naturally aspirated engine and you have built a very healthy engine. You will be very hard pressed to achieve your final numbers at a reasonable price.

The B23E already has a fairly agreesive cam, and a good injection system running a freer flowing exhaust will help some. Good luck and have lots of fun.
