Correct alternator voltage
I continue to attack alternator problem. I swapped the regulator and now my alternator is putting out 14.8 volts with a load on it. Is this correct or is the battery being overcharged? It is a 2012 Volvo XC70 7.3 with the 180 amp alternator.

14.7 is considered to be the maximum charging voltage. I would not worry about the extra 0.1V, it is most likely measurement error in the voltage meter.

Ok, Thanks. My concern is I had it tested at two of the local stores ...both Advanced and Oreilly's and they both said it was bad and overcharging. But I put my volt meter on it and get 14.8 volts. We are about to take a long Thanksgiving trip and don't want end up ruining the battery.

The voltage should drop as the battery charges. 14.7 is the peak charging voltage, it should not stay that high for long. If it does not come down there is something wrong. Check your volt meter against another to be sure it not your meter. Have the battery checked also.

Thanks Rick. I had had the battery checked ...as well as checked it myself. It is fine. I did try another voltmeter and now I am getting 14.6 to 14.73 so I am a little more comfortable with what I have. Although this does not say a lot about having the chain parts stores tests.
