Not all BMW engines are non-interference...
You have both the 2.5L 325I 525I series and the 4.0L 740I.
I will say one thing about the BMWs, I like the titanium head bolts on some of the newer models.

Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
1999 V70 XC AWD 2.4 T -- ~231k miles
1998 V70 2.4 NA -- ~184k miles

If you go to Bimmerfest you might get sick reading some of the high mileage BMW stories.
How a car is maintained is much more relevant than brand.
The amount of power that can be extracted from a small, efficient power plant nowadays is an engineering marvel.
If you are fearful and going to give someone $1000 of yours to do two hours of work and use unknown parts...,,,it's your choice. I'll help anyone within driving distance escape this fate for free.

Single piece exhaust manifold gasket, oem Volvo. Fits all 5 cylinder engines I believe. Just clip the tab off at the end, I used it on my P80. 12 bucks. "Volvo Exhaust Manifold Gasket - Genuine Volvo 8699467".

I'll disagree with this. A Toyota or Nissan given no preventive maintenance besides regular fluid changes will be more reliable than a Mercedes given the full dealer treatment, even at high mileages (200k-ish).
That's been my experience, anyway. Not 100% of the time will it apply, but generally entry-level cars for middle class families are designed to last with minimal maintenance, and expensive luxury cars aren't designed to last. Often it's really basic stuff that breaks, too.

Getting off topic but I have always had one Toyota in the fleet since about 1990 and I completely agree. We have a 99 Camry and a bunch of Volvos. Here's the 13 year maintenance history on the Camry since I got it in 2004 @ 28k, to today @ 121k:
*2007 EGR position sensor
2009 battery
2010 front struts and mounts
2010 rear struts and mounts
*2010 one bad fuel injector
2010 plug leads (they were fine - the injector was the issue)
2011 spark plugs
2011 timing belt, tensioner, rollers, serp belt (not the water pump)
2011 turn rear rotors
*2011 ABS sensor
*2017 thermostat
2017 front and rear sway bar end links
2017 front brake rotors
plus regular fluids (oil, ATF, coolant, brake fluid, even PS fluid once) and filters (air, oil, fuel)
plus brake pads a few times, did not list the dates
So basically 4 things broke and needed fixing (with the * marks) and a few wear items wore out and were replaced.
Looks like it is due for a battery, it lives in Chicago where winters are cold.
