Looking for hp boost chip on 99 s70 turbo 5speed

Post by Steve99s70t5manual »

Hi I just got a 99s70 turbo and want to boost the hp a bit and want to know if there are any chips out there for this reason. I had a 94 850 turbo and it felt more peppy than the s70 turbo. If anyone can point out anything that is inexpensive and effective I'd be very greatful.

I believe they just upload the modifications to your existing computer. I do not believe there is an easily removable chip.

That's because you bought a light pressure turbo. The 1994 850 had a high pressure turbo putting out 220bhp, your current ride is around 205bhp.
I don't think you want to spend a lot of money 'chipping' your ECU for an extra 15bhp. Don't sweat the low power when you have a 5 speed, it will save your clutch and it is more fun to drive than the automatic.

The signature says T5 so should be a 237hp 2.3L high pressure turbo motor. The 2.4T had considerably less hp @ 190

Have you brought the car to Stage 0 (plugs, filters, high tension wires, oil and PCV service?) Is compression within the range of 135psi to 160 psi ? If not you may want to do the above and try a Seafoam treatment to try and free up the piston rings.

Inexpensive and effective; that's for headache tablets :D

Not sure what you are wanting to do, but there are options out there from IPD and you could check out Rica if they still do one. I have a softloader unit from them and can swap my tune from standard to modified by downloading the tunes myself. The Rica tune on my 2000 'R' is supposed to take the power from 265bhp to 312bhp and the torque to around 300ft/lb. Can't recall what the tune does for the T5.
