'05 V50 - chirping noise?

Post by smithy850 »

When stopped for gas on an out of town drive yesterday, I noticed a chirping sound coming from the engine bay. It was the loudest at idle and got quieter, but still present, at speed. This morning, went to check it and it wasn't there at cold start up but began after about 5 minutes and got worse. it's not coming from the serpentine belt or fan. Seems to be more toward the rear of the engine. This car only has 25,000 miles on it. Will take to the dealer for a warrantee inspection but would like some input to avoid any dealer chin music. THX.

I'm going to take a jab at it and say it's belt related...probably service belt- slipping ever so slightly...such as when the A/C compressor is engaged, or maybe even without...belt tensioner come to mind as a possible culprit. Does it do it with both the A/C off and on? Hope the dealer figures it out without issue. Trouble with the engine bay is that sounds bounce around in there and it is very difficult to pin-point the exact location of it unless you use a mechanic's stethoscope and then still it's difficult.
