Brake failure 1987 740 GLE Wagon

Post by ccb222 »

No brakes on 1987 740 GLE Wagon. Fluid full. Dismantled front brakes and rotors and pads look "passable" but will replace. When they're done will check out the rears. BUT, don't think this is the problem. Should add that what happens is that the brake pedal goes to the floor board with very little resistance. Failure was sudden (no accident) and remember, no fluid loss, so will investigate all suggestions. Thanks! Charles (ccb222).

Sounds like a bad master cylinder. Your brakes are a dual hydraulic circuit system and both circuits come together in the master cylinder. I bet the master cylinder pushrod had bad seals between the two reservoirs. The fluid is leaking between two internal chambers, not to the outside.

Check it out some more and let us know what you find.

Yes, I did have a bad master cylinder. Used one installed, everything reassembled and system bled, and the brakes are super. Thanks! ccb222
