850 '94 headlight switch

Post by watchmaker_of_death »

Hello,

I can't find a solution anywhere.
So it's my '94 850.
When I turn to the 0 position the headlights switch, the dashboard lights go off, but the headlights remain on.
The other positions work as they should.
When I remove the key, everything is off.

I changed the switch with one from the junkyard, because I thought it was it the issue. Same problem.

I live in Sweden, the car comes from Norway, and in both countries we have to drive always with the lights on.
So I was thinking if there was a bypass directly on the headlamps wiring made by the previous owner. So he couldn't forget to switch the lights on.

I wouldn't care because it works, but the technician at the periodic car check up doesn't see it that way.

That's the correct function for Daytime Runnjng Lights

In the States we can turn these off by giving the little screw in the rear of the light switch a quarter turn counterclockwise , but I'm not sure you get this option in all countries where DRL are on all cars.

No we don't have this little screw in Europe.

In Europe, daytime lights, it's the high position of the switch. We have to be able to switch them off just by turn it to 0.

It could be your headlight switch was replaced , watchmaker. They do go bad sometimes.

Or, your car is just special.

Maybe go back to the JY and find a switch that does have the "A" screw, misha pointed out?

It's in my car too, and I live in Denmark.

Hope you get it sorted, a lot of the periodic check up technicians in Sweden aren't very forgiving as far as I remember from living there.

Strange... Because I had a 96' 850 when I lived in France, and same, no 'A' screw... And it was an Italian or Swiss import.
But I suppose that, because this 850 is a Norwegian model, maybe set up with the norwegian regulations on DRL from the main headlights.

I'll check if I can cut somr wire in the switch or bend a pin.
