Replacing radiator on '98 S70 GLT

That cut has been discussed here before, the interpretation is that it allows for expansion and contraction with heating and cooling.

Thank you, that makes sense. It looked like it was placed there with a purpose, but I wasn't sure.

I have one more question: There is a plastic piece in the upper right corner area of the radiator that's pushing that corner back. That thing just doesn't make sense to me. In my mind, if you create pressure on just one corner, that means the radiator (and the intercooler and condenser) gets stressed. Can I leave it out, it's kind of hard to install?
