Thats a good book for both Junior and Juniorette - anyone under 25.
College kids today don't really leave the nest the way we did, they take a little longer. They make there way, its just a longer process. Just like our parents we wonder what the world is coming to, but this generation is the greatest in terms of their empathy for others, their world view, and their tolerance.

I will definitely check the book out asap. He is across the country and we never see him, she is in South Florida just a couple hundred miles away. I do not fly and won't until Volvo makes a jet or Delta brings back the 707, so never.abscate wrote: ↑20 Dec 2017, 07:25 Thats a good book for both Junior and Juniorette - anyone under 25.

My Yorkie and Baby my S80 are the only children left at home I'm afraid. I am really glad I grew up when I did, because things were simpler then.
Really the black on black is what brought me over to admire the 08 S60 as it gleams. Also black is not common on Volvo down here. I was shocked to find such a beautiful car being traded. June

Sounds like a good dealer, and as you have probably been keeping them in profit for many years with your Volvos, it should be a good car.
We have our son driving my wife's old 06 XC70 to/from University in Calgary here pretty much on a daily basis for the last 4 years. He feels safe and secure in the car and it is serviced at the dealer (just had the 'big' 144,000km/90,000 mile service) but we don't worry as much about him being safe. The car has taken a few door scrape/dings from other careless owners but it still drives great. Those later S60's are normally good strong cars and with a timing belt and service/inspection your daughter will be a very lucky young lady.
He just has to be reminded occasionally to wash the car, but recently that has not been an issue.
Good luck!
Neil.

I will post a picture when I can get one. Actually other than seeing it during the trade in I have not seen the car again. It's in the back lot somewhere they keep trades for the 72 hour hold. I didn't feel the need this morning to wonder back there. Nobody is allowed to touch the car for the 72 hours if I understood my salesman correctly. I wish I had snapped a photo yesterday, but I didn't think of it until you mentioned it. I just hope the car is ready before Christmas. On their part I cannot imagine anything will fail the safety check. June

* The timing belt at 9y/30K interval...personally I'd not worry about it until you hit 13y/80K or so.
The recommedation of 10y/100K is based on the fact that people drive about 10K a year.
If you leave the TB on the shelf, after 10y, it will degrade a bit but still very good. Rubber degrade with time and mileage, but the Volvo recoomedation is very conservative.
OTOH, the mechanical tensioner can go wrong at 120K or so, taking the TB with it.
* Just replaced my Timing Belt in my 2005 XC90 2.5T with 12y/110K, the TB was in very good shape and only shows very minor surface crack. This TB could easily last another 30K. Detail in the DIY below:

So, relax and enjoy the S60 for the next 4-5y.

For an EMEA - 08 the belts are 10 y or 180 000 km. Shouldn't be too different for a US car. The belts should be more similar to ours than the oils you guys get as synthetic.

I've owned several S60's and S80's from 2000 through 2008 models. They have all been tremendous vehicles to own and care for.
I totaled a 2005 S60 and my son totaled his 2000 S80, neither our faults. Both vehicles protected us from injury, and we immediately replaced them with other S60's and S80's. If you know what to look for when purchasing, these cars are the best kept secrets around.

Well took her down to pick up the car and she fell in love with a black C70 which I had not looked at because it was a 2007. So we bought her the C70. Though I blotted out their faces, notice she gave me thumbs up as she drove away with the salesman. She loves the car and all service is up to date and preformed by Volvo including the timing belt due to age. June
