I know you said you checked the ATF/Transmission fluid and it wasn't burnt or discolored.

How high was the level in the cold range and what was the outside temp when you did this? Is there any difference when you give it a little gas in say drive vs in neutral or park?

Are there any other known issues with leaks or seals that have been ongoing? When was the transmission fluid last changed? Is the check engine light illuminated at this point?

Are you in an area of CA that uses road salt?

All else fails, disconnect the battery on a friday night, don't connect it again until Saturday morning. Just in case you have some freaky control module issue. I seriously doubt it, but occasionally the bazarre works...

THIS REALLY SEEMS LIKE A TROLL THREAD TO ME.

If someone really needed help, do you guys think that they would try SOMETHING in a day or two? Or even take the advice of someone that has 2,000+ post? Amazing!

If this is REAL, I suggest that you guys call a wrecker and have it hauled to a salvage yard and take the $200 and run.

1. Also, it is not possible to properly check the transmission fluid level without the car being driven for 30+ minutes.
2. The OP says that the vehicle is lurching when shifted into gears. Likely not a PNP switch issue.
3. Putting the vehicle on a jack and spinning a wheel would take 5 minutes at best.
4. Referring to a PO and someone that currently needs the vehicle indicates they have NO maintenance history.

I promise these postings are real!! I just don't have a lot of time right now to consistently work on this car day by day hour by hour and I don't have a shop?

Any yes you are right all the diagnostics that have been done so far are just quick checks and not real accurate...yet. and I apologize for that I don't know a whole lot about cars especially volvo's. (uhhmmmm I do believe since my first posting anyone would have known that immediately) This is my first time posting on anything I am not very good at it. hahaha and yes I am taking everyone's advice seriously...My friend is not in a desperate situation yet?

I do live in CA and I do live where the roads have to be sanded because of ice and snow but I don't believe it is salt?

This car was owned by a couple who took excellent care of the car also anytime it did need any work done they always took it to a Volvo dealership the car was also garaged all of its life. I will be able to use my friends shop soon hopefully! Just trying to pick the brains of the wise of Volvo owners while I can. (thought maybe I would get a lucky break)

To the posters who believe I am wasting their time I apologize and encourage them to move on to some of the more worthy at this time. I am going to be a hit and miss for a little while. I would hate to junk this beautifully maintained well taken care of car...it literally looks like a brand new car it is in mint condition...just this issue trying to stay away from having tranny rebuilt and that not being the real issue?? anyway being on this forum has been fun!!!! I will continue to post what I learn to also educate or be able to help anyone else who might be having the same issues? Who ever chooses to respond Yeahhhh! Thank you

I don't know what a troll thread is but I promise I'm not a troll hahaha I'm a person trying to help out a friend in between long work hours...I'm a farmer (animals only) not a mechanic OBVIOUSLY not a mechanic! I do appreciate this forum and the peoples time they take to post a possible solution?

Relax and hang in there. Keep feeding the info and your animals. No one has to reply to your posts if they think you are troll but others will.

In a jam, take it into the barn (preferably not dairy/steer - you already know why...) and put the car on top of (2) 2x8's and use a jack and jack stands to get the clearance you require to work on it. An old piece of carpet or astro turf will make life easier if you have to get under it. Make sure to chock the rear wheels (block them so they can't roll) if you do get under it and never trust a jack - always use jack stands.

RSPI has a YouTube channel with many helpful videos on quite a large selection of Volvo's and various Volvo issues. I'd suggest giving them a view just to familiarize yourself with the Volvo terminology and systems.
