Back in march of 16 my S80 had it's belt, wheels, seals, and water pump at my Volvo dealer. No sticker was placed as the dealer reports all repairs which can be seen online souch as through carfax. In fact every ticket on your car at the dealer is viewable down to a lightbulb.

We just bought a used C70 for our daughter and i saw the car's complete history printed off of carfax which showed the dealer had just changed the timing belt +++ as well as every oil change. The stickers would definitely be useful afterdealer installation not electronically reported. June
Since the sticker is delivered in the box I don't really see the online record as a reason not to install the sticker as well. It's not much different from before when you had both the reciept and the sticker.
Stickers can come off, receipts get lost, but a electronic record is permanent. My car has no sticker so are you implying somehow the work wasn't done since the mechanic didn't stick a sticker?

I read someone imply the OP should open the cover to see. Work performed by a Volvo service department is guaranteed, reported online, as well as the OP has the receipt to prove the work complete. Who buys a modern used car and does not look at carfax? June

Oh its $1,000,00 without water pump and $1,500.00 with water pump service at Volvo.
I'm just saying why not do it all while at it?

Wow. $1500 for what took me as an amateur 4 hours the first time and ~$200 in parts (timing and accessory belt). Volvo in Sweden charge 6-800 in most places including our 25 % sales tax.

This is my receipt for my timing belt with water pump service. Though Volvo says water pump to be replaced every other belt, i feel it's worth replacing every time. Mine was 12 years old and in another 100k how old would the factory pump and thermostat and housing be? $1,399.00 +tax June

I added the page before on the bill outlines the other parts associated with timing belt w water pump service

Your reciept seems to specify a thermostat replacement and coolant flush as well which would account for some of the cost. These are not included in a basic timing belt change over here and have to be asked for.

Thanks everyone for replying. I guess it is covered by the repair being recorded at the Volvo dealer. When I first went there to inquire they told me a sticker should have been applied had it been replaced. That's why I was expecting to see that happen. I guess I was just feeling vulnerable this morning, I had just come from the dealer. Also I was expecting to see the sticker right on the timing belt cover, perhaps they put it somewhere else. Yes I should have asked to see the old one. The car report at time of purchase was called Car Proof and it showed that service had been done but no details about the service. I feel more comfortable with the whole thing now. Thanks again everyone for the feedback.

I've seen them out on the TB cover, the spark plug cover, the ECU box cover, and underhood

Thats with water pump change. You can get just the timing belt service which installs the kit, than if you choose have the water pump changed for the extra $500 it comes with the flush, housing, hose, and thermostat. I felt to leave the old water pump and thermostat which were original equipment 12 years old at the time was foolish. But is required by the maintenance schedule every other belt service. I just realized the rest of that line was on the page before and added it to that post which showes the rest of the parts. June

I've never heard of the thermostat having an interval. Nor the flush even though it probably should have one and I've done it anyway. The thermostat is more of a it works until it doesn't part in my book since there's no danger involved if it fails, the car just doesn't get warm as it should. It is of course less work to do it while the accessory belt is already off, at least on I5s with the newer model thermostat housing. They won't do it just because you ask them to change to water pump over here though.

I hate to tell you, but sometimes the thermostat sticks closed or partially closed overheating the engine which from my understanding can dammage the engine. June

I had a similar experience. I bought my s60 w/150K a couple years ago with the understanding that the timing belt had recently been serviced. I even had a copy of the service receipt that just listed "timing belt" along with some other small line items that were done as well.
No sticker was present anywhere in the engine compartment which made me wonder...?
So just to be sure, I took off the smaller upper timing belt cover/engine cover to get a look at the belt. Sure enough, the belt was not original and looked fairly new.
Then, still curious, I took off the entire timing belt cover to take a look. I discovered that only the timing belt was new! The idler pulley, tensioner (which was about to fail), and water pump were all original! The dealer had just slapped a new belt on it.
I'm glad that I had checked. NOW there is a sticker on there! And all of the associated parts have been replaced too.

Why should I pay $1000 for a T-belt replacement when I can just buy a sticker for 50 cents? (Just kidding)

Another good reason to go buy a borescope. Without removing the accessory belt and main cover you could probe with a scope to get a look at the tensioner, idler, water pump, etc.
