This may be a symptom of the clutch needing adjustment where the clutch isn't quite opening up all the way. On the other hand you may have a synchronizer giving you difficulty or... you may just be hypersensitive ( and lacking sleep, like I would be because you are excited about your new car... ).

If it were me, I would be driving the car some more and really getting to know it better. It doesn't sound like anything that is going to fail tommorrow. And sometimes sounds come and go. I mean the car is 10 years old... Perfection comes at a price.

When you lift your foot back off of the clutch tell us where in the travel that you get full engagement w/ the trans.

Does anyone out there know if these clutches are adjustable?...

I'll look it up in the manual later if nobody responds.

Yes, I know - No they are not. They self adjust in the hydraulics.

My clutch chatters every morning out of first and it shifts hard for the first 10 to 15 minutes of driving. After that it is as smooth as silk. I was going to change it but, since it does not slip at all, I had another cocktail and talked myself out of it. When it starts to slip I will change the clutch and, just for fun, the RMS.

Lee,

I didn't know you had a 5-speed! Do you know if it is the original clutch and how many miles are on it.

When I test drove that wagon with 195K I remember the clutch having very little play left. Does that make sense even though it adjusts through the hydraulics?

..and what is the RMS...

It has 193,123 on the clock. From the service records I retrieved from the broken glove box I am going to assume the clutch is original.

RMS=Rear Main Seal. If you go as far as pulling the flywheel to get it surfaced - why not.

Well I wish it was a lack of sleep! The clutch is operating at about 3/4 of the way up. Soon enough we will know. Today I left the window down and some husband went by on the mower and filled it with grass. I detailed it and he had no idea the window was down!
Time will tell with this one and some time next week it will be on a rack and I will know more.
