I live in Chattanooga Tennessee if anyone looking bed around here can you please recommend a mechanic that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg so I as a single mom can afford to get my car fixed if I can’t do it myself

May as well ask on the S60 forum, there are more users there. I also like to go on local.google.com and type in something like "european garage" for your area. There are reviews on the results shown. Sometimes local classifieds sites (craigslist) may have independent Volvo techs offering repairs at their place. Also don't hesitate to ask here for advise on repairs and on the reliable parts brands we use

Chris Lavier is owner, phone # is 865-522-0717. Trans-Tech in Oak Ridge, TN services all Volvo, Saab, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and more at 865-482-6880.
I know this is old, and is Knoxville, but they may network with an indie in Chatanooga?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

We have a Mechanics Locator Forum as well as I think at least one moderator who lives in TN area who may be able to recommend.

I've also used Yelp to look for recommendations. A large number of positive reviews is a good sign. I read them, too - even the bad ones. Some of the bad ones are valid, and some are what I call "stupid whiny stuff". Read them also, so you can make up your own mind. I've avoided places that have a lot of bad reviews, as well as been happy with places that have good reviews. Good luck!

The link above only lists Nashville (3 1/2 hes from Chattanooga). I live in Knoxville but it’s 2 hrs away too. Last year when we were looking for an S60 for my son we drove to Chattanooga and came close to buying his car there from an Auto Mechanic instructor who loves and works on Volvo’s at the high school there. Not sure which high school it was but I would call around to the high schools there and ask to speak with the Auto Mechanics teacher. At some point you may hit the jack pot! Even if you don’t get the right school I’m thinking others will know who he is and can direct you in the right direction. Sorry that I don’t recall his of his school’s name. Good luck and post back if/when you find him it to give us a general update.
