Having replaced the bad coil and appreciated the sound of the smoothly running engine, today I stared at the dashboard and said some blue words because the blower motor quit again. I've replaced it once already in the 2 years I've had this car with a same-year unit from the boneyard (along with the power stage); given its age it's not surprising it crapped out, I was just hoping to get more time out of it, but back to dismantling the glove box etc. It's winter in Massachusetts, I kinda need the defrost to work for anyone to drive it.
Need to decide whether to get another scrap one or plunk down $60-$80 for a new unit.
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved

So THAT'S it!
I was puzzled why that reservoir would soon return to a shiny appearance, especially when the cap seal was good. I kept wondering why it would do that. Now I understand.

1. Replaced 8yr old OEM t-stat that was very slow to close in 30°F temps. Great having REAL heat back and ^MPG.
2. Replaced both elec. caps inside original OEM fuel pump relay. Fixed cold-start issue. Made emergency jumper.
3. Intermittent pass. fog light was due to the bulb, not the socket. Once replaced, no more problems.
4. Coming up on oil + filter change.
5. All work done in my massive post few years back doing well with no issues.

My 1999 manual for my T5 says 105k miles for the fuel filter - is the R different??jtp wrote: ↑10 Jan 2018, 12:09 Just did my fuel filter. I was expecting the filter to be easily accessible on the passenger side until I couldn’t find it. I don’t know if it’s because this is a 99 or an AWD model but it was way up in the back of the car. Also I couldn’t find a schrader valve back there like I’ve seen in older models. I did release fuel pressure from the rail and waited about an hour after driving to start but I got an annoying amount of fuel all over the place regardless.
Oh well at least it’s done. Other filter wasn’t original but had to have at least 30K on it.
Question: my manual for this 99 it says to replace the fuel filter every 50K, in my 98 it said 30K. Besides the location of the filter what changed that justifies increasing the maintenance interval 20 thousand miles?
The fuel filters on these cars are massive and hardly ever plug - if you read threads on misfires and poor running, fuel filters rarely solve it.

Ya you’re right 105, I checked an 850 manual it said 100K. I used to always here 30k on this site and have always done it that way. Oh well.... would have done one today regardless, I’m slowly just doing a stage one on this thing. Spark plugs are next.abscate wrote: ↑10 Jan 2018, 14:21My 1999 manual for my T5 says 105k miles for the fuel filter - is the R different??jtp wrote: ↑10 Jan 2018, 12:09 Just did my fuel filter. Not today, but I got a lot of stuff done on the 98' XC over the last couple of weeks:
- rebuilt Bosch starter installed.
- new OEM radiator installed, which fixed a really annoying super slow leak, replaced coolant too of course.
- new OEM lower trans cooler hose installed.
- new OEM front left wheel bearing assembly installed by my indie.
- removed the prop shaft yet again because of a knocking sound that developed recently
(indie found a bad bushing for the viscous coupler housing,
but I'm not about to spend any more money on the AWD system at the moment)
It feels great driving the car again, hopefully this is it for now with repairs.

I'm not clear on what car jtp replaced the fuel filter on. But on my 2000 V70R there is a hard to see Schraeder valve at the back of the fuel line inside of the RHR wheel near the roll-over valve.
There it is above just forward of the fuel filter on the RHS.
Neil.
