ETM V70 1999 3 trips still reving

Hi and thank you for this important chat topic and opportunity to share.

We have a 99 V70. We got the recall note and as second owners rushed the vehicle in to be serviced (supposedly got the software upgrade back in May.)
Car continued to run fine. Then three weeks ago (august) wife gets in car, car revs up. Sorry still learning the codes, I think it was the ETS light goes on continuously. We had our car towed to the dealer some 100 miles away for a quick fix (half a day.) and picked it up the next day to return with no problems until two days latter. Same problem. Called dealer, they sent up free rental car and towed our car back to be serviced for a week, during which time the representative drove the car home each night to see if the problem would come back. It did several times until "It was no longer a recall issue."Which sounds like they exhausted the allocated cost to fix In all of this they replaced the software (again I think) cleaned the throttle and then replaced the throttle. They told us it was now our expense and it needed a new ACC pedal (I assume pedal throttle assembly.) Seems like same part but I don't know their jargon.
Now in the 2nd fix we did not receive any paper work, so did not know what they did. The service manager said it was fixed under recall and thus paperwork was unnecessary. How were we to know what was done so we can carry on or deal with future issues? So we asked for paper work and got the current paper work where upon we got the recall info for the third visit and the paid amount for the throttle pedal. One day after great operation and viola it is not working, so we are considering taking it to another Volvo dealer further away. Somewhere in all of this the liaison said that sometimes the software problem damages the hardware, perhaps with incorrect voltages or inappropriate signals at damaging times. We wonder about the cost of the throttle pedal.
We live in a very rural mountainous area, and my wife now feels very unsafe with this car. Can it do this when she is on a turn in the mountains out of Cell phone contact?
Granted one expects that new systems with bugs evolve into systems without bugs but it makes me wonder, should we buy another Volvo? Your chat site worries us both and the comments about the Trannies well... you can imagine. It could be that someones transmission was failing and it is not related', but it does not make one feel safe. Welcome to the computer world.
One other comment. Has anyone noted that fixes that do not stick often last about 1-2 days? Seems like what may be occurring is a hard shut off via disconnect from battery resetting computer that takes 1-2 days to find the problem and recreate it. Any comments would be appreciated.
I am generally commenting because I think it helps others to know the way these things fail and what to expect. Good luck to all of you. We have enjoyed our Volvos and hope that this problem will become history soon.
