Trying to buy this coolant hose, can’t find it

Post by jtp »

I need to replace the coolant hoses on the wagon before I address any other less urgent issues. Most of them I’ve inspected are in really bad shape.

I can’t find the small hose in the back of the engine compartment on the passenger side for sale anywhere and I’m not seeing it in part diagrams.

Anybody have a part number or what size generic coolant hose I should get if it’s not available? I’m thinking one inch diameter or so but I haven’t measured it.

Make your life easier - when you get it, install it with the part number facing out =)

- Yes, use only Volvo OEM hose for that. I used a fuel line hose (it was a weekend) which barely lasted one year, then developed pinhole leak, simply b/c it is above the exhaust. This is why the Volvo OEM hose is better, it has silicone on the inside.

- By this time, you will definitely need to replace the 2 Turbo coolant hoses if not already done so:

Got it. Yes I’m doing everything, even the heater hoses. You can’t tell from the pic because the car is ice cold but even that one is swollen and weak looking when it’s been running, and it’s not even one of the worst looking ones.

I had read the turbo coolant hoses were such a pain i assumed they were both down closer to the turbo where it’s hard to reach, at least that one will be less of a pain then the other I guess. Thanks!

When you do the heater hoses going into the firewall, replace the junction at the same time. It will get damaged when you disconnect those hoses.

For HEATER HOSES, no need to buy Volvo OEM hoses (expensive @ $55/each, BTW stay away from URO!), instead I use generic Gates hoses as below.
I did this 3 years ago, so far so good, zero issues.
You basically re-use the fittings and get ird of the firewall coupling, eliminating the stupid firewall coupler design.
It is a very very but effective mod.

- At this age, consider replacing the heater core too (search forum for the Estonia heater core, about $50 on ebay).
