Coolant leak at high rpm

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Coolant leak at high rpm

Post by Cverte »

Coolant reservoir cap was left off and car was driven but temperature gauge stayed at midpoint the midpoint mark. The coolant was filled up and now when the engine gets to over three thousand rpm, coolant leaks from bottom drivers side of the engine. Is this a blown head gasket, if not any help on what it could be would be appreciated. Thank you

I have seen where the gasket for the water pump is poor quality and it drips down from the timing belt compartment and flows to the other side along the sub-suspension or something. How much coolant are you adding and how often ?

What engine? Exactly where on the engine is the leak? What does the oil and coolant look like?

Higher RPM equates to higher pressure - so you may have a gasket leak as atman100 suggests or a damaged coolant hose.

You need to provide more information.

Bottom driver's side is where all the return hose from the radiator along with the two hoses for the heater core connect to the engine block. Maybe one is cracked. If replacing it, use only an original Volvo one, even a used one, don't buy aftermarket. Ebay has them used just check you get the exact same shape. For the heater core hoses, here's how these connect to the firewall
