Thought I had it fixed 05 S60R
Had trouble with tail lights going out when I started car but with ignition in position 2 no problem, After some trials and errors looked like it must be ignition switch so changed the switch and problem seemed to be corrected. Than a few days later went to start it and could only hear a click so it seemed like starter must be bad. Ordered and installed new one and same problem. Searched forum found to look at fuses and relay checked and cleaned them and it started !!! YEAH !!! but wait tail light problem starting again ?? Seems when I fix or trace repair I'm barking up the wrong tree. Now to take old starter in to test it and start jiggle ignition switch again and see if tail lights come on. Guess I've made unnecessary repairs but all the problems indicated I was on the right track, maybe I should post this in the OPPS!! post

Clarify, the tail lights work in key position 2, but don't come back on after cranking the starter? But sometimes or always will come back on if you manipulate or wiggle the key while the engine is running. Correct? Or do they come back on but not stay on?
When you pull on the left stalk, do the headlamps toggle between bright/dim or flash to pass behavior?

You got it all correct. Has no effect on headlights they are on and flash fine. Like I mentioned replaced ignition switch and starter but sometimes it will not start until I tap on fuse and relays in engine compartment. Guess I have to replace relay as well as I believe it must be stuck as a tap seems to correct it.

The starter seems like a separate issue.
You stated that the tail lights worked properly for awhile after replacing the ignition switch, but has returned back to the problem where they don't work unless you wiggle the key.
Instead of wiggling the key, remove the steering wheel shroud and try wiggling or pushing in on the blue wire at the harness connector that plugs into the ignition switch. Blue wire is position 8 on the connector.
I'm wondering if the terminal has spread and isn't making a solid connection to the ignition switch. If wiggling the wire turns the lamps on, disconnect the harness plug and inspect that terminal for heat damage. You might try bending/crimping the the terminal a bit so that it grabs onto the spade on the ignition switch more snugly.
If that doesn't appear to sort the problem, I will be at a loss without being able to probe a few circuits with a meter and connect it to VIDA. I'm not sure there's anything in VIDA would help with this one. VIDA will show that the tail lights are on or off, but probably not indicate why they're off when they should be on.

Hmm. That makes it a little more interesting. That refers specifically to the front parking lamps: overcurrent which could be a short to ground in the wiring or a higher wattage bulb than is specified for those locations.
According to this guy (translation from russian),
https://translate.google.com/translate? ... edit-text=
When the CEM senses an overcurrent in the front parking lamps, it shuts off the parking lights. He solved the issue by replacing a bulb. He didn't say whether the rear parking lamps were affected, note the translation isn't great and you have to sort of interpret what is there.
Conjecture:
It's possible when you wiggle the key, you're breaking contact to that wire that that only sends juice to the REM at KPII resetting something in the REM, meanwhile the CEM has not been reset and thus does not resend the command to the REM to shut the parking lamps off, so they come back on and stay.
Definitely worth investigating. Note the front parking lamps on the side of the headlamp assembly are wired in parallel with the city lamps which I'm not sure you have on an '05R (it would be a small plug-in 194 bulb either below or to the side of the xenon bulb). If you have the forward city lamps you have 4 bulbs to check. If not, 2. You could also check the bulb sockets for these front parking lamps for a short to ground- check both terminals, only one wire of the two at each bulb socket should show continuity to ground. If both do there's a short to ground between the CEM to the bulb for whichever side you are looking at.
