I believe the J turn is there in an attempt to avoid oil going back into the PCV during hard cornering.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

"Take good notes on the job so you can do it again quickly in 6 months from now."

Known problems with the ÜRO PCV kit or a vote of no confidence for the ÜRO brand name?

(E) All of the above.

WE have a couple of documented threads on the URO rubber PCV hoses falling apart in 6 months The breather box is probably ok, and any hose you can get to easily to replace probably could be argued to be decent value, but anything with significant labour to get on/off should be blue box.

It is obvious ÜRO is playing the cheap game rather then the cost effective game. Many of the Blue box parts are becoming obsolete. If we wish to keep the older Volvo running, it would be due diligence to figure out which of the after market parts are of good quality and which are not.

The PCV system on my '98 C70 SE 2.3 HPT is due. I have been looking a the PCV kits from Mission Trading Company (MTC) of Livermore, CA.

MTC claims they adhere to all specifications implemented by Auto Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), which guarantees MTC products meet the highest levels of quality.

Does anybody have any experience with MTC parts? Can we collectively determine if MTC's claim is factual or just marketing hype like ÜRO's claims?

I once bought what I thought was a quality URO power steering hose (reservoir to pump). A few months later, I'm driving and notice the dreaded steering groan and difficulty turning. Opened the hood to see that the hose has swollen to about twice its normal size and came into contact with the serp belt, cutting a hole in it and spraying PS fluid all over the place. Limped it to the dealer and the problem was solved. Never again URO...

I've got a blue box j hose in my garage I pulled off a car in a junkyard. Looks brand new. If nothing else, I'll check on other aftermarket brands, because I definitely agree with the post after yours saying we need to keep in mind and log any aftermarket parts that are solid quality.

Cost is always a consideration for me - I make what most 24 year old professionals make (read as "not a lot"), have two kids, and I'm the only income right now. Even if it means I'm doing it multiple times, sometimes I'm stuck with the $80 option (and sometimes that's not even doable) instead of the $160 option, even if I KNOW the $80 option end up costing me the same or more in the long run (that's just kinda the problem with being broke. But that's a convo for a much different forum)

I've seen a couple other aftermarket brands that are still cheaper than the Genuine parts (seriously, $160 for an OE kit?). Any suggestions on anything solid that isn't so damn expensive?

IPD has an in house kit for $100. Anyone have experience there? I've seen reviews from 10 years ago that suggested it was decent with one or two iffy hoses, and a bunch in the last two years from other Volvo models saying their kits were awesome.

Might call them and see what brands they're using on that kit, but nothing said URO, and they claim (granted, they're biased) that the quality is "OEM or better"

Woah woah woah! .... '94 850 NA have a Flame trap that needs periodic cleaning or replacement. It located on the side of the intake hose, the larger hose runs to the oil trap. Check the Flame Trap and see if it clogged up. New ones are about $5.00.
