I took advantage of the warm-ish weather to change the leaky PS reservoir and hose to the pump in my '00 V70. I love that the Rein hoses come with clamps when ordered from RockAuto. Everything went smoothly, and I had a new bottle of PS fluid that my brother had gifted me for my ill-fated Saab 9-5.

I also took off my left rear wheel to look for the source of an occasional grinding/clunking noise. One of the brake shoes had gotten on the wrong side of the retaining clips. After fixing it, the wheel wouldn't fit, so I loosened the brake cable and reset the shoes, which did the trick.

Next, I might investigate why the tailgate only sometimes locks/unlocks. Or flush and replace the coolant, and heater core, in the '98 V70.

Fixed my headlight wipers with ProParts - some issues with fitting.

Nice! Did you have to access the wiper motor? I bought ProParts replacement arms when they started to fall apart but never managed to get the old ones off.

Put some PB or Kroil on them daily for a week, then just a 7 mm hex and some wiggling, no need to fuss with motor.

Nice healthy shot of lube on reinstallation. I use Permatex Antiseize

Manged to flush the coolant in the '98 V70, swap some hoses and reservoir, and replace the original heater core (manufactured in 1997!) with one from Swedish Parts today. When accessing the heater core box, I noticed this hose that leads from the firewall to the floor was broken at the floor.

Might try some Gorilla tape, or maybe JB Weld to reattach the coupling end to the floor tube.

That's the climate unit condensate and rain drain, so make sure that's going out under the car or else you will be soaking it into your floor padding

I think it is just a press fit on the floor pipe?

Yea, you should be able to just push it onto the tube.

I got my turn signals to work again on my 2000 Volvo S70. They had slowly been dying. i had replaced the fuse, the turn stalk and the ignition switch. I was ready to purchase the ignition unit. I reread every post about turn signals and decided to try replacing the hazard switch unit. I went to the local pick and pull and bought two units for $10.00. In the parking lot I installed one of the units and I had turn signals!
I am a Volvo rescuer. I buy used Volvos at auction and drive them for a couple of years and them buy another.
I love the 850, V70, and S70 cars.

Good work on the hazard switch, Bob! But why did you get two replacements? Or will you use the spare on another car?

I myself am already thinking about how to make the most out of the summer holidays. I used to go camping with my Land Rover, now only have the '99 V70XC.
Thinking about renting a roof tent (or buying a used one), just to try. Any folks on here have experience with them? I would be doing camping outside of regular campsites, or pretty basic sites. No paved 5 star 'luxury' campsites for me .
I now have a really cool traditional tent, but the downsides are that it needs a large flat ground surface and takes quite a while to set up and tear down. That would be my main reasons to try a roof tent.

Any tips, experiences, downsides on roof tents would be appreciated!

I was allowed the use of a heated garage with a lift for a few hours today. Sure beats having to work on the car in the driveway in -2C/28F.

I bolted on a new exhaust manifold, now the complete exhaust is less than 2 months old from the engine and all the way back
I located the manifold in Holland, manufactured in Sweden by Volvo OE supplier and it was a perfect fit. I almost felt like it was a shame to hide it underneath the slowly detoriating heat shield, but now I can hear the injectors at work instead of the exhaust leaking through the cracked manifold.

Next up is to remove the intake manifold and hunt down the bad connection to the front knock sensor, I'm so not looking forward to it.

(It took 30 minutes to burn off the protective coating from the manifold when I had finished putting it all back together)

What about a putting your stuff in a roof storage container and sleeping in the car? Not sure what exactly the advantages of a roof tent are, but I've car-camped my V70 and it's fine. Not big, but usable.
