door glass re-set help?

Post by GoldCO »

My teenage daughter decided that instead of scraping the ice and snow off the window it would be easier to just roll it down... and did I mention it was 3˚ outside?

So now it seems the glass has come out of the track or lift channel after it got stuck (frozen I'm sure) at some point in the process. Glass is now back down in door but I can hear motor working.

Pretty straightforward fix, once I remove door panel (I hope)?
Any tips/tricks appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The motor is connected to the glass frame with a linkage holding two plastic slide blocks that run in tracks in the window frame. If you're lucky the linkage has just popped free of the blocks or something. It's relatively easy to see whats going on if you remove the door panel and the glued insulation panels covering the holes in the sheet metal.

thanks...
quick question: how does the green connector come loose? got the gray one removed with the tab, but i don't feel/see anything around the green one.

with insulation panel removed i can see that at least the clip on the backside is broken (grrrr). don't see an access panel for the front side? once i can get the door panel removed entirely it will be easier to see what's happening i suppose.

do you think i could snag those clips from the junkyard, or are they more likely to break when you try to remove the linkage?

got the green connector off (can't believe they put the clip on the backside with little room to get to it against panel; glad i don't have giant hands).

so feeling around the front of the lift track, i don't feel a similar clip in the front. glass is free from lift linkage but still in door. does the front need to be installed first somehow and then you pop the rear clip in or am i just missing the front block/clip that i can't see??

time to youtube glass install i suppose.

thanks
so front and rear are same apparently (for clips/arms)...
interesting the writeup didn't say anything about having to remove speaker, but based on the illustration i guess that's the next step.

my bad... that's not the speaker (thank god, since it is riveted in).

okay, finally have access to everything. just need to track down new clips for the lift channel. no luck on rockauto. i imagine the dealer only sells gold-plated ones. ;-)

thanks for the help.

I don,t believe Volvo would sell these for $50. Perhaps less than $10 for one. But check the rear one too with a small mirror as it may already be damaged.

Remember to push the metal pin of the metal arm all the way inside the plastic slider, before engaging the securing clip

By the way, welcome to the world of the infamous Volvo electrical connectors : I always use the tip of a small screw driver to press the tabs while pulling these connectors.

after striking out with o'reilly, NAPA, and advanceauto i was feeling hopeless... then, much to my surprise, autozone listed them (special order -- 2 days) and lo & behold only $1.99!!
