Thanks J-dawg for that idea!
Well, the (supposed) benefits of a roof tent are that you don't have to make/undo the bed when setting up, but that it folds along with the tent and doesn't cost time.

Sleeping in the car is less windy I would guess. Did you make blinds for yours? I slept in a V70 once without blinds and woke up really early!
I did see a YouTube video of a guy who car camped with his V70, is this you :D:

@ jvl I vote yes for the roof tent simply because the setup you posted looks awesome 😎.

I got some OEM rubber floor mats and put them in this weekend. Can’t believe I never got these before. Definitely a good purchase, fit is amazing.

Stockpiling parts for the coming weeks and months, coolant hoses in a couple weekends as I’ll have use of a lift and I bet that’ll make the turbo line easier.

Tested the wife's '97 GLT for a HG leak.

Had been noticing the cooling system holding pressure for even a couple days, and she'd been occasionally pushing a little coolant past the cap.

It's a vert minor leak, so it's not dire yet.

The engine has 275K miles on it, so instead of just pulling the head for a HG, I'm probably going to go through the '96 std turbo motor I have on a stand in the garage.

Hope it remains a minor leak. 275k is amazing.

Out of curiosity, what is the device you have on the overflow tank?

I now have a really cool traditional tent, but the downsides are that it needs a large flat ground surface and takes quite a while to set up and tear down. That would be my main reasons to try a roof tent.

Any tips, experiences, downsides on roof tents would be appreciated!
What about a putting your stuff in a roof storage container and sleeping in the car? Not sure what exactly the advantages of a roof tent are, but I've car-camped my V70 and it's fine. Not big, but usable.
In college, my girlfriend and I went camping in the Outer Banks but were besieged by remnants of a nor'easter. With all the campgrounds soggy, we transferred all our stuff to the front of her parents' 1986 240 DL wagon and slept comfortably in the back with the seats folded flat. The ultimate vehicle!

A rooftop box would've made it ideal.

Sick of smelling coolant whenever turning on the heat in the '00 V70 and encouraged by last week's somewhat successful similar repair of the '98 V70, I replaced the Volvo heater core with a Nissens.

The MT shift cables made the space a bit more cramped, but most everything went smoothly. I even managed to catch most of the new Pentosin blue coolant in a clean trash bag. The rubber drain hose was intact, unlike my other one, and it helped to unplug it and tuck it aside. Taking out the passenger-side kick panel, glove box and short duct provided a decent amount of room to work.

After installation, I cut a hole in one end of the trash bag and put the coolant back in the overflow tank. Not all of it took, so I drove around, shifting and steering with one hand while holding a trash bag of coolant with the other — even managing to get my seatbelt on!

The Nissens heater core seemed well made. Like the Swedish Car Parts model, the metal component with the fins was clamped on to the plastic end pieces, not glued together like the original Volvo one. I'm curious to see if one gives out before the other.

Oh, and this time I washed the heater core with Dawn and hot water. When it heated up, there was a vague odor of dishwashing liquid. The Swedish one had a chemical smell my wife described as "toxic," so I might redo that one with an exterior wash.

It is a cooling system tester.
Checks for combustion gases in the coolant system. The fluid starts as blue, and turns yellow if combustion gases are present.

I think you're confusing the exhaust gas tester for a bong =)
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
