2005 S80 - Stalling at idle - no check engine codes

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

TCC = torque converter clutch. Under certain circumstances the torque converter locks, taking the fluid coupling out of play to improve fuel economy. If it doesn't disengage when coming to a stop its the same as a manual transmission if you don't press the clutch. Putting it in neutral disconnects the wheels back in the gearbox, and in the case of that Old GM I mentioned, also disengaged the TCC.

Note, a 2005 S80 doesn't have a separate IAC. The electronically controlled throttle body controls idle air by adjusting the main throttle plate. You might want to quiz your mechanic what he was referring to as an 'IAC'.

Thanks for explaining the TCC acronym.

As for the IAC, that might be my fault of not recalling what "acronym part" he has replaced. I need to find my various receipts to confirm all the parts we've replaced (for various fuel issues). Albeit they have all been due to codes showing for.

Even a local Volvo specialist is stumped on this.

UPDATE:

Mechanic was finally able to get it to throw an Engine Code so he could take it to a local Volvo mechanic (not dealer).

It signaled the Fuel Pump running too high RPM (like 3-4x). Fuel pump is new in the last 6 months.

Another shop finally able to take it in to review the issue. Eventually they discovered the fuel line between the (saddle) tanks had corroded internally (two wall line?), and thus could not sustain fuel pressure causing the Fuel Pump to work "overtime".

Last conversation I had with my mechanic (who local Mechanic is communicating with), is that line has been replaced, and now Fuel Pump is to be replaced (under warranty).

Hope to get the Volvo back soon. 25mpg @ $3.30/gal (premium) is better than the 14mpg at $2.70 (regular) in my backup 4x4 vehicle.
