OK - good mechanicing is not a race, but I had an hour of time in a boring conference call where I was just a listener, so I plugged earphones in and dashed outside.

My front left caliper locked up on me so I got two rebuilt ATE calipers from BAP GEON (in stock, local, 42 USD with 16 USD core) - you need to specify both wheel size and rotor size - mine were 280mm, 305 mm is the other option.

Tools used <br />15mm Caliper bolts<br />7mm hex - caliper slide pins<br />10mm, 11mm - bleed screws

Slacken (just crack) brake hose with 14mm open end. You will spin the caliper off by hand later once it is off the rotor

Once caliper pins (7mm hex) are loose, I pry out caliper with flat pry bar and gentle hammer taps

Reinstall spring - thumb pressure where index finger is, pliers pull loop down to push up on pad

Bleeder on caliper was 10mm, original 11 mm - note loop in hose to keep bleeder wet - I ran about 250 mL of brake fluid through new caliper and found brakes were great after this. Pressure bleeding system after having it open is highly recommended.

Well done!

You are lucky that the brake line came loose with what appears to be minimal pain. The lines are notorious for seizing in place.

Thanks Lee!

It's pretty easy to move it (14mm) while the caliper is firmly attached to the wheel - I've found once you remove it that job gets nasty.

I did leave out the pin removal picture, will edit

I did one of mine on my 04 the other week though its exactly the same. Almost exactly one hour from when I had my tools ready and started taking the wheels off. I got away with gravity bleeding it though, it just started pouring through after I took the lid off the reservoir so I just kept filling until a deciliter or two had run through :-)

I think Gochees has one in Delmar. It's a rare sight seeing someone carrying discs through a money and brains neighborhood on the way to the auto shop

lol, I did this over new years with a junkyard caliper. Once everything is cracked loose it goes very quickly. Something I will never understand is european calipers using allen head type bolts. My tool kit has 2 sided allen extension bits. The problem is that they are nearly 8 inches long which makes the (3/8" socket + adapter + the allen bit) a very tight fit. I definitely to invest in a couple of standalone allen sockets.

There’s a slight subtle point here I should have explained better.

The caliper hose is attached hard to the caliper and then to the flexible hose attached to a bracket. The hose/hard line connection is the tough one to break, so what I do is crack the line at the caliperwhile mounted, unmount the caliper, then unscrew the hose by turning the caliper. If the hose is in good condition this saves a lot of hard work.
