VIDA Subscription

Post by Arbelac »

Hmm, I'm debating getting a 3-day subscription to VIDA for the DVD reference... anyone know if you can access the DVD material (i.e. the service books) after the subscription runs out?

I like having the actual shop manuals for my cars...

https://www.volvotechinfo.com/index.cfm is the site for reference.

I really don't know about the VIDA system. Why not buy a VADIS disc on line (eBay). You won't need a subscription and you'll still have access to everything but downloads, unless your car is a '06 or newer, then yeah, the only option really is VIDA.

VIDA seems to be the new version of VADIS... does your VADIS disc require a username and password to get into? Or is all the data directly available on the disc?

Honestly, 83 bucks for a DVD with all the information on it, if it stays accessible, isn't that much to pay IMO. Especially since I'm looking at getting an 04+ XC70 sometime soon (I hope...)

It does require password, etc. I got mine on eBay for under $40 and it came with all the username/password needed and yes, everything is accessible.

You can download VADIS for free,I found it in 2 different places. It takes about a day and a half with hi speed internet, so don't try it with dial up.

I think it is on bittorrent. In order to get stuff it requires that you load up their software and essentially open up your computer for file sharing. The whole concept kinda scared me so I just bought the DVD on eBay.

Thanks Lee

In fact, after I got bored late last night I did just that and found it. I've got it downloaded but it's in some type of "iso" file that my techno-weenie friend is gonna help me with later. I'll let everyone know if it was worth it.

An ISO is an image file. You shouldn't have any trouble opening it. It just means that it took a "picture" of the disk and burned what it saw.

Most burning programs (RecordNow, Nero, etc.) will burn an image file to CD or DVD (depending on size) so that the end resulting disc can be used as intended.
