Hi Roger,

I will post some photos below of the fuel tank filler area from my car, but I do not have a green hard pipe leading to it. I thought that maybe my recollection was bad as I didn't recall a pipe like that in that area.

There is a rubber pipe that runs up the side of the main aluminum filler pipe to near the top which then goes into the filter canister at the top and goes down along the filler pipe to the roll over valve at the side of the carbon canister above the rear subframe. So perhaps the 98 is a little different.

There are several hard metal green coated pipes in my fuel system but most are wither vent pipe on the top of the tank or fuel pipe from the fuel pump to filter, then to the front of the car, and there is another one between the fuel pump and the ejector on the LHS of the saddle fuel tank, and lastly a pipe from the pressure valve on the return pipe which runs around the top of the tank to the ejector. From memory those are all the pipes of that type I can recall.

Pictures of the fuel system vacuum regulator as promised Roger:
Vacuum pressure valve
Vacuum pressure valve
Picture above is as you sent me. The short rubber pipe should be connected to the valve and 'T' into the main pipe from the carbon canister at the back of the car and run up to another valve at the front. On a 98 I think it is mounted near the top LHS of the radiator.

The other end of the pipe runs in the covered channel on the RHS underside of the car (turn the locking plastic screws 90 degrees to release the cover). Not sure where it ends at the front on your car though:

Hope that helps.

My 98 V70R didn't come with the vacuum control valve that yours has. This was obviously added to later models after 98. There is no place for a vacuum line to connect to the regulator. How many actual fuel lines run to the engine bay, or to the front of the car from the tank? Going by the lines on the 04 system, there's only one fuel supply line able to supply fuel to the front of the car. My car has the black vacuum plastic line running back and it has two green metal lines front to back. The lines on the new fuel pump have a black plastic line on the front of the tank that connects the right, ( pump side ) to the left side of tank. The second line on the left side of the car from the tank returns to the fuel filter and also has the vacuum control valve mounted in with it. The second line from the right side ( pump side ) goes to the fuel filter as well. WTH man the other hose from the front of my car coming back towards the tank wasn't changed but was replaced with rubber fuel line and was connected to the fuel filter. I'm not sure if I made this clear or not but I'm confused about the second Hardline coming to the rear of the car. If it's a fuel line, then where the hell does it go. Evidently the only fuel pump and lines available at the moment for this car were from an 04 V or S 70, so that's what I ended up with. I'm loosing my mind.

2004 and 1998 fuel systems are completely different. If someone cut out the fuel pressure regulator you need to sort that out

1998 was the last year for vacuum controlled FPR

Neil, I have figured out which one of the lines is the supply line to the filter and connected it to one of the supply lines to the front. The two lines looked exactly alike in shape before I cut and reconnected them together. I still only see one outgoing line from the tank to the front. I need to figure out where to connect the line that someone else repaired with rubber fuel line and also comes from the front of the car. This hose has a fitting that connected to the original fuel filter. I have the replacement lines with the line from the drivers side of the car runs over the back of the tank with the fuel pressure valve and supplies fuel to filter. No other line comes out to connect to the lines up to the front of the car. The line from the front with the fitting that connected to the filter originally has nothing to connect to in the back of the car? I'm loosing my mind.

The photos from your post on MVS only shows one line from the tank to the front of the car as well but it's not the same as mine. Before the rusty lines were leaking, the car ran okay, not perfect but okay.

This fuel system that I am replacing is actually from a 98 V70 . The vacuum control is factory. I have one fuel supply line coming from the tank and another line that comes from the other side of the tank ( pump side) that goes to the fuel filter. The line with the vacuum control on it seems to be a supply line and is pressurized, yet the car Will run without the line connected. I have the line from the pump side connected to the fuel filter. The second line from the front of the car, I have connected to the outlet of the fuel filter. It too was repaired with a rubber line. The car started right up but fuel leaks profusely from the other line with the silver control valve on it. It can't have three fittings for the fuel filter and two fuel lines. How do I know which line from the front of the car is the supply line for the fuel delivery system. It appears to run either way. Am I missing something here, possibly my mind. Help a guy out please. Anyone who may have a clue to what is going on here. This is the number one reason for not finishing a job that someone else started. I'm pulling what little hair I have left, OUT.

Take your VIN number and plug it into the Volvo Parts Lisle engine and go to fuel delivery and you will see what your system should look like. Snap a pic and post it here with any questions.
