Hey,
Just picked up a 03 XC90 T6, body, motor and transmission are all very solid. The vehicle was neglected and I'm in the process of bringing it back to its former glory..
Anyway, I replaced both front axles, I lost about an ounce of fluid from the drivers side and about half a cup from the passenger side. Question 1 A/B: (a) Is this ok? should I replace seals or am I fine if they are not leaking now? (b) Is this fluid from the transmission, as in do I just top up the tranny fluid?
Question 2: Cleaning the dash area yesterday I noticed a very faint "fan" noise coming from behind the climate controls with the engine off and key out of the ignition. It's very very quiet, you can't hear it if the engine is on or if there is any outside noise, it has to be very quiet to hear it and it does sound like a tiny fan but not sure if it is. It seemed to run non stop, I'm sure it's draining the battery but have not had any starting issues yet.
Thanks for any advice.

Hello and welcome!
Not sure if the leak is normal, but 1 oz is very little and no concerns about refilling.
For how long did the noise continued after removing the key ? There is a engine ecu cooling fan but I would expect it to run mostly in hot weather, for 1-2minutes after parking the car. There may also be some relays that would buzz again for about 1 minute.
Not willing to bring up the obvious, but go gently when driving (no hard accelerations), it will extend a little the life of this transmission.

Thanks!
The noise seemed to run for some time, longer than it took to clean the interior, I even ran outside after posting this and it was still running.. Although I did have to open the door to listen, maybe opening the door re-started the noise. I will have to wait for a nice day and leave the window down and check on it regularly to see if it stops at some point.

First, congrats and welcome to the forum.
You probably tore the seal on the passenger side of the trans when you pulled the axle ( I know I did) yes, you should replace them as a preventive maintenance task. the trans seal-NOT the angle gear seal. If yours doesn't leak, you might be okay. Mine made little quarter-sized messes in the driveway.
Yes, just top up with trans fluid.
Sounds like the climate control stat fan may be running. cycle the ECC through and see if it stops. If it doesn't draw the battery down too far, oh well.
Did you do homework before buying this vehicle? If not, search T6 transmission. Don't get scared or angry, just aware.

Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
