I called them to get an idea of the cost and how long it would take. It irritates me and infuriates me when they say well it could be 5 dollars or 1000. That is just an exaggeration but you get my point. They also said that it might take multiple days?? I need someone on the inside an inside mole at Volvo or are they the only ones that can do this???
Because they said it might take multiple days I'm thinking they may be talking about OBDII readiness. If a DTC code has been erased or the battery disconnected the readiness monitors may not have been completed and additional drive cycles may be needed or some other problem is preventing the readiness monitor from completing. Evaporative system monitor readiness can take some time because of the conditions needed to run this test, such as fuel level in the tank.

some info about readiness monitors

nice scanner for easily viewing monitor status

It would good to ask for more specifics from your inspection shop. What warning light(s) are they referring to, is it the check engine light indicating a DTC (should be visible on your dash too) or is it a warning light on a scanner they're using saying the readiness status is not complete?

Was the battery recently disconnected or did it go dead? Have DTC codes been recently erased? If there were DTCs what were they if they were erased?

I understand that but the garage all ready fixed everything. The modules need to be updated and I am trying to figure out how to do it without paying Volvo.

It's not updating its clearing of error codes you need probably.

Tire pressure light, check engine light go on and they have reset it multiple times. I just had it inspected less than a month ago and a diag was done. Other than what they fixed there is nothing else that they see that needs to be fixed.

Not sure if battery was disconnected during inspection. I did not disconnect it.

If the engine light goes on there's an engine error code active. You need to find out what it is to get rid of it.

If the check engine is coming on and keeps coming after codes are being erased multiple times then there is most certainly a problem that stills needs to be be fixed. If the shop has erased the codes to reset the check engine light multiple times they should be providing you with the actual code or codes stored or pending prior to erasing them, what the codes mean, if the codes being read are the same one(s) coming back or if the codes are changing and so forth. If you're not at least getting this information from your shop then find another shop. Just saying a module needs to be updated is very vague and unlikely the problem causing a check engine light anyway. Did they replace a module, if so which one?

They cant replace the modules--Volvo needs to do that.... They looked at the codes and then checked out what they are referring to and there was nothing wrong with the car.

If codes are actually set by faulty computer modules there are at least on this side the ocean a few companies that can fix them and a bare handful of individuals outside Volvos workshops that can reset a used computer module to its factory state so that it can be installed in another car.

It is however much less likely than an error still being there.

Start by figuring out what the actual error code being set is.
