98 S70 NA 203K - still on original fuel pump....fuel filter changed at 35K (by PO) and at 183K

00 V70 NA 119K - still on original fuel pump....fuel filter changed at 107K

Neither of them have ever been run to empty since I purchased them at 160K for the S70 and 82K for the V70.

The fuel pump failed on my 92 940 NA at about 190K.

Just last week, the fuel pump went out in my '94 850T, which has about 220K on it. It seemed to be the original Bosch; I replaced it with a Walbro (which has been great - I haven't noticed it being louder, as some people have described). Fortunately, while I had to figure a lot of things out since I hadn't worked in that space of the car before, it was a pretty straightforward procedure.

Why would you keep more fuel in the tank in winter?

I can think of a few reasons. If you're in an area prone to poor weather and road conditions, it's nice to not worry about fuel if you end up in a big delay due to closure/accidents. Likewise, if you're in a more remote area, it's nice to have flexibility. Also, keeping a full tank can help prevent moisture accumulation in the tank.

I preemptively replaced my fuel pump assembly at around 160K, mostly due to the failed check-valve.

Likewise. I replaced the 'R' pump and ejector at 165,000 miles with Volvo OE. Original was still working well but as it is such a swine to do on an AWD, I did it anyway. V70 base is still on original at 165,000 miles.

Before I bought my 850, the previous owner replaced the fuel pump at 90k. That might be the earliest yet in the thread!

90000 mi failure. Car was driven fairly infrequently
Replaced with cheapo brand, not sure which one. I'll be replacing it again soon at 135k just for peace of mind.

The thread is interesting - these definitely die a lot, the forum gets a lot of confirmed dead fuel pump cases and has for many years, yet there are so many graybeards in the thread. Fuel pumps that is.
