Hello all,
I just bought a 240 DL wagon 87 automatic. Just changed the belts on it and thought it was working fine. Mileage is approx 200k odometer is broken. Car was running fine and today all the lights came on and the car shut off and steering was hard. It has a new battery and the belts are tight. Basically it acts like it wants to turn over but doesn't. I also hear a pinging noise after its off kind of like something dripping on metal. I checked the oil and transmission fluid and they are full. Any clues as to what it can be. I am new to a volvo.
Thanks,
Jeff

Did you change the timing belt? If not do you know when it was last changed?
Remove oil filler cap, shine flashlight in, have someone try to start engine. If cam isn't turning you just broke a timing belt.
