The car is very presentable inside and out, with shiny paint and a nice and clean interior.
I purchased it in the summer of 2012 from JRL with 107k on it. For what it’s worth, here is the original ad sans photos:

As to be expected, the car was very clean to begin with, and I tried my best to preserve it, or make it even better in some respects.
It drives and shifts as it should with the AWD fully intact. At this point, pretty much everything that can fail on these cars has been addressed. No CEL or any codes, and even the SAS pump is still working fine.
The engine has been replaced with a used one from Erie Volvo at 132k (had 105k when installed). This was due to a water pump failure at highway speed, and it destroyed the head.
The engine is completely original and it uses next to no oil and doesn’t smoke at all.
The tranny is original to the car and never gave me a problem.
All the major AWD components have been replaced with new Volvo OEM parts, except for the prop shaft, which is rebuilt.
The suspension has been refreshed with new struts upfront and new Nivomats in the rear.
The brakes have been done recently with Zimmermann rotors and Akebono pads.
Also, the parking brake has been completely rebuilt with new OEM cables, shoes and hardware.
The A/C is still blowing nice and cold, and the heater works fine.
A while ago I rebuilt the front C/V axles with new boots and fresh grease. Again, only OEM parts were used for this.
The steering rack developed a small leak over the years, but adding some ATP 205 solved that problem.
The car comes with a set of Berber mats and a Weathertech cargo liner.
I have all the repair and maintenance records for the 6 years I have owned it if anyone is interested. I also have the receipts of the work Jim has done prior to delivery to me (timing belt, evaporator, heater core, rebuilt SAS pump, tranny flush, new PCV system etc.)
Oil changes were done every 3500 miles give or take with conventional oil and always with Mann filters. I did a couple of drain and fills of the tranny fluid about 2 years ago and it still looks good.
The body has no rust, but the exhaust system and some suspension components have some surface rust as to be expected for a 20 year old car.
The car has been mildly modified with the following:
- 302mm front brake conversion with Zimmermann slotted rotors
- Rear wing
- XC banner and emblem delete on tailgate
- Depo Jewel headlights
- “R” style door panels
- “R” instrument cluster with chrome rings for the gauges and matching mileage
- Meteor rims with Pirelli P7 all season tires in 215/55/16 which are just like new, NO curb rash, not even a scratch on any of them
- Eurosport dual exhaust
- K&N Air filter
- Aftermarket Kenwood stereo is installed right now, but the original stereo comes with the car

I tried to list things to the best of my knowledge, if you have any questions, just ask.
My indie mechanic did most of the bigger stuff, but I did quite a bit of work myself.
So, what’s wrong with it? Not much:
- The only remote I have for the car quit working the other day. I installed a new battery, but it still won’t work.
- The tailgate is developing a little rattle again.
- I lost the little flaps in front of the rear wheels.
- Driver side fog light lens has a crack, but there is no moisture inside, possibly because they are covered with Laminex
- The new viscous coupler makes a slight whiny noise which usually disappears after a few miles of driving. This does not have an effect on drivability and hasn’t bothered me much.
