98 Volvo V70XC white/ charcoal for sale, very clean

Post by 850 LPT »

For sale is my 98’ XC in white/ charcoal with 166k+ miles on it.

The car is very presentable inside and out, with shiny paint and a nice and clean interior.
I purchased it in the summer of 2012 from JRL with 107k on it. For what it’s worth, here is the original ad sans photos:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=48128

As to be expected, the car was very clean to begin with, and I tried my best to preserve it, or make it even better in some respects.
It drives and shifts as it should with the AWD fully intact. At this point, pretty much everything that can fail on these cars has been addressed. No CEL or any codes, and even the SAS pump is still working fine.
The engine has been replaced with a used one from Erie Volvo at 132k (had 105k when installed). This was due to a water pump failure at highway speed, and it destroyed the head.
The engine is completely original and it uses next to no oil and doesn’t smoke at all.
The tranny is original to the car and never gave me a problem.
All the major AWD components have been replaced with new Volvo OEM parts, except for the prop shaft, which is rebuilt.
The suspension has been refreshed with new struts upfront and new Nivomats in the rear.
The brakes have been done recently with Zimmermann rotors and Akebono pads.
Also, the parking brake has been completely rebuilt with new OEM cables, shoes and hardware.
The A/C is still blowing nice and cold, and the heater works fine.
A while ago I rebuilt the front C/V axles with new boots and fresh grease. Again, only OEM parts were used for this.
The steering rack developed a small leak over the years, but adding some ATP 205 solved that problem.
The car comes with a set of Berber mats and a Weathertech cargo liner.

I have all the repair and maintenance records for the 6 years I have owned it if anyone is interested. I also have the receipts of the work Jim has done prior to delivery to me (timing belt, evaporator, heater core, rebuilt SAS pump, tranny flush, new PCV system etc.)
Oil changes were done every 3500 miles give or take with conventional oil and always with Mann filters. I did a couple of drain and fills of the tranny fluid about 2 years ago and it still looks good.
The body has no rust, but the exhaust system and some suspension components have some surface rust as to be expected for a 20 year old car.

The car has been mildly modified with the following:
  • 302mm front brake conversion with Zimmermann slotted rotors
  • Rear wing
  • XC banner and emblem delete on tailgate
  • Depo Jewel headlights
  • “R” style door panels
  • “R” instrument cluster with chrome rings for the gauges and matching mileage
  • Meteor rims with Pirelli P7 all season tires in 215/55/16 which are just like new, NO curb rash, not even a scratch on any of them
  • Eurosport dual exhaust
  • K&N Air filter
  • Aftermarket Kenwood stereo is installed right now, but the original stereo comes with the car
Below is a more detailed history of the major repairs of the XC, keep in mind there are quite a few smaller parts like light bulbs, door check strap, tail gate shocks etc that are not listed here, otherwise the list would just be too long and who wants to read that much anyway.

I tried to list things to the best of my knowledge, if you have any questions, just ask.
My indie mechanic did most of the bigger stuff, but I did quite a bit of work myself.

So, what’s wrong with it? Not much:
  • The only remote I have for the car quit working the other day. I installed a new battery, but it still won’t work.
  • The tailgate is developing a little rattle again.
  • I lost the little flaps in front of the rear wheels.
  • Driver side fog light lens has a crack, but there is no moisture inside, possibly because they are covered with Laminex
  • The new viscous coupler makes a slight whiny noise which usually disappears after a few miles of driving. This does not have an effect on drivability and hasn’t bothered me much.
Asking price is $5600. No low ball offers accepted.

Question for you. I see you have the EST dual exhaust. Is that the Mototec "Touring" exhaust? Am I correct in assuming you still have the cat, and so cat-back is just the dual exhaust?

If so, how's the sound? Any droning on the highway?

This one: https://www.eurosporttuning.com/mototec ... odels.html

Thanks! I can't find many reviews of this product, and even fewer that have the same car as me with no other big mods like downpipes, etc.

Yes, that's the one I have, I haven't seen it described as Mototec before. The XC still has the original cat just like you suspected.

It sounds really nice, there is absolutely no droning at any speed.
The quality is so so but for that it's fairly cheap. My indie had a bit of hard time with fitting the pieces together and aligning everything right.

Save your money and don't buy that muffler system it is junk. P.O. of my 'R' fitted this and it holed really quickly on the mufflers. See if you can find one made in real stainless steel T304. The stuff they used is no better than mild steel.

Why are your door panels in such great shape? Why isn't the glue failing and causing the skin to lift off and look like someone inflated the door panel?

Are they replacements? Did you repair them? They look perfect. Whole thing looks perfect. I'm jealous.

I'm also glad I don't need a new car because I'd be talking my way into a higher price not lower. :-)

Hi Andy, thanks :)

The door panels are from a V70R. These door panels have leather inserts that are not prone to the glue failing problem. The regular panels that came on these cars can be repaired though. I have seen quite a few posts here were people used all kinds of different glues to make them look like new again. But it's a labor intensive process from what I understand.
