Re: Vacuum to turbo. Waste gate?

Post by mrjay62 »

Thank you Thank you Jimmy57
That was Very informative!
My biggest problem is getting familiar with the turbo and the Correct names for the part...
So far The CBV -Compressor Bypass Valve. On that I applied pressure and vacuum no resistance.
Next was the top -Waste Gate , yellow hose. On That as I applied Vacuum or Pressure dont remember now which.. But the actuator/rod did move slow and smoothly.
Now To That Red hose from my understanding is Vacuum line from the intake manifold, That I can not find where it ends so I can test it for leaks I been tracing it , but so far nothing....
Im learning.. This is my 1st time dealing with a turbo and To Me a Very complicated vacuum system....

Doing my best to learn more about it and asking questions/testing before throw money/parts at it..

Right now I finding it hard to just reach in and turn a wrench .
Some I blame on limited space and some on myself. With all the hardware I have holding 3 shattered vertebrae together and a triple fusion all in my neck movement is pretty rough. 15,20 mins of anything and im too uncomfortable to continue .45,60 mins of laying back/Sitting back before I can start again.. It is what is..
Hopefully this weekend ill get the front of sub frame dropped and give me some room to reach in and see whats what..

I want to say Thank You to you guys for your Guidance /Information/Help.
I really do appreciate it!!!

I'll update as soon as I get something done..

The red hose should take pressure from the compressor case, a small nipple under the pressure side of the turbo, back up to the boost control valve

I’ll find a picture.

Hi abscate.
Ok that I found and marked it with red tape So I Dont forget....
Should that Make Pressure or Vacuum while the car is running? Do does it only do it at higher RPMS. Or will it not do anything if the CBV isnt working...
Like I said I was able to get my Vacuum/Pressure gun onto the the CBV air passes thu with no resistance..

Thanks Abscate.

Pressure when running. I’ve never measured it but that sounds like a cool thing to try

Hi Guys, ok back again .
I found that my CBV Holds Vacuum but not Pressure because the line Is Bad , Vacuum pulls the tiny spot of dry rot closed. Replaced that line and now its holding pressure and Vacuum, same with the Waste gate..
What im Confused About it that Red Hose im Not getting Anything Not Vacuum or Pressure Even at 3000 rpm.

What am I missing here?

Thank you Abscate...
Also having trouble find information on the 2 sensors mounted on the pipe going to the ETM?
Any ideas what they may be?

Thank you
Jay

One is the pressure sensor (three wire connector) and the other is a temperature sensor for the manifold right before the ETM

I had one go bad on my 1999 - I think it was the temperature one. You will get a code if it goes. Without a code, leave them alone.

Ok thanks...
Just that one code P0236...

Do you know what this Sensor is called just be the turbo..? Also how do I remove it, maybe a way of testing it?

What I did Find is the Electric connection was Full of Oil.. 2 months ago I had the oil seal for the rear camshaft go oil ran all down that area.
I wonder if that would give me a faulty reading?
When I 1st seen it I thought it was grease like I put on all my connection, but as I got ready clean this pipe I noticed it was motor oil inside the plug...

Here are 2 pictures I d8nt know why they alway turn upside down....lol

Well. I don't get a peep of pressure out of the red hose at idle or at revs. I used my IPD wastegate adjust valve and a 6mm to 6mm adapter between the red and silicon blue hose, and get nothing

:?: :?: :?:

Ill confess I don't see how the wastegate can get opened from standstill without working pressure which would have to be there......
