Lower Engine Cover on 2004 S60R

Post by mr.vls »

I bought my 2004 S60R used in 2005 and when I changed the oil I noticed that there were bolt holes for a cover but no cover. At the time i just assumed that the previous owner removed and never installed out of convenience. I ordered and currently have installed the lower engine cover. But I was reading some other forums today and found out that there was no lower engine cover on the S60R due to heat concerns. Should i remove the cover and leave it off or is it not that much of a concern. So far, I have probaly ran 30K with the lower engine cover installed. But if it is truly an issue it will come off this weekend and stay off.

On our '04 V70 I found the same thing and since it got services for free for awhile, I accused the dealer of just taking it off and not putting it back on (they were the only ones that serviced it for the first few thousand miles). Anyway, long story short, they said they did not, so I bought an IPD skid plate instead and installed it. It has air vents and allows air to flow through plus it's a great protection if the car ever goes off road somewhere (swerving to avoid an accident for instance) and hits a rock or debris. I do recall that when I asked the dealer about the missing piece, they did not mention that it wasn't there due to heat. Maybe someone else can confirm what you say.

I bought my 2004 V70 "not a T" from a broker at the end of a lease, and it didn't have the cover either. Here in Canada we could use it to keep the slush out and the heat in.

How did you even get it on, the regular cover does NOT fit an R and yes, REMOVE IT!
Not supposed to be there (for heat dispursion)

Well the cover was purchased from My Swedish Parts and if fit right in. All the holes in the cover matched the existing holes in the body. No issue at all.
