Hello.
I'm currently replacing the front suspension on my Volvo 850. When looking to buy new parts I consulted volvopartswebstore and found https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/prod ... 57705.html
I've removed and dissembled my old parts already, and part 9157705 was nowhere to be found. I'm guessing I don't need it. But does anyone know when you would use it? For a AWD perhaps? Maybe Volvo found it was beneficial and decided to include it - similar to how they decided the flamtrap is no longer needed for NA cars.
Anyway, if anyone has any input, I'd love to know!
Cheers
When to use part 9157705 (suspension) Topic is solved

You always use it. The part gets crushed paper thin and is easy to miss when disassembling. If you don't install one, the spring seat will ride directly on the bearing plate, metal to metal and squeak.
It's function is a hard lube.

It could be possible that is got crushed paper thin, but I'm almost certain nothing extra is there. I'll give it another look in the morning.
I've also checked a few videos now and I've yet to see it being used.
FCP one for example doesn't mention it:

One might think of the spacer as sacrificial material. $3.50 is a whole lot less the cost of replacing a worn out Spring seat and/or Plate.
Look close you might find the old one.

It gets missed by a lot of people, including professionals. If it has been serviced before there might not be one .. it got missed.
