AC not cooling /

Post by loveMy850 »

When filling my freon should I not goes past 45 in the yellow. My air cools then warm then cools. Flustrating. Is it my clutch gap. Or my compressor. Belt was changed last year.

What is the pressure on the high side?

Though I got to thinking when I turned my fan on I'd here this click about every few minutes. Now I don't hear it. I'm trying to eliminate what it could be of course. What was that click. Could that been my compressor clutch engaging. I really don't want to deal with this but its hot up in the high desert. Last winter my heater core went out. what gives! 😩

45 might be ok if it is over 80 degrees outside. Please see this link for pressure vs temp:

I wouldn't feel comfortable making my pressure that high though.

Have you checked the clutch gap? And yes, that clicking is the compressor clutch engaging.

If your A/C blows cold-hot-cold-hot, that makes me think the compressor is not staying engaged. Do you have the A/C set to auto, or manual max cold?

I'm not sure what is being used for a pressure gauge but no matter what it is the compressor has to be running, and the radiator fan has to be blowing, for the low side (suction) pressure to be valid. A reading of 45 PSI with the compressor running is a bit higher than what would be normal but I'm not so sure that you actually have a good reading. A reading peaking at 45 PSI with the compressor not running would indicate a low charge if the ambient temp is hot or even very warm. I think you are still low and the compressor is cycling due to the pressure getting too low and turning off the compressor. Compressor off, on a hot day, you will see readings well in excess of 100 PSI.

It is actually a bit tough to overfill a Volvo with the standard auto parts store cans.

It was more like 101 outside.I'm like I don't want to over fill it and screw up something really bad up.I've checked the clutch seems ok. I hit around on the fan relay I got a click a couple times. I'm wondering if it isn't my freon and I didn't fill it enough.I haven't added any before a few days ago which was very little , like in 2010.
