2002 XC70 sunroof switch confused

Post by annp »

Hi there,

I have a 2002 XC70. My 13-year-old son recently decided that it would be easier to climb over the car rather than go around it, and he smashed right through the sunroof. 10 stitches and one call to my insurance company later, I have new glass installed.

However, when I first got my car back from the glass repair shop, the sunroof opened okay, but when I pushed the button forward to close it, it went past the closed position and into the vent position. Push the button backward - open. Push the button forward - close and then go to vent position. Nothing happened when I pushed the button up or down (instead of fowards or backwards), which would normally put it in and out of the vent position.

My nice glass repair people came to my house this morning to see what they could do. Their parts dealer told them to hold the switch in the vent position for 8-10 seconds and that should reset everything.

It definitely reset something -- but now when I press the button to close the sunroof, it closes, goes to vent position, closes, and opens again. Again, pressing the button up or down doesn't do anything.

I called my dealer and they said there isn't a sequence I could run to reset the switch; I'd have to bring it in. I could just pay them a couple hundred dollars out of my pocket to have them do whatever twiddling they need to do, or I could get my insurance company involved, but this is all so tiresome.

I've done some online searching, and have tried turning my car on and off 5 times, locking/unlocking with my remote...various voo doo that worked for others, but doesn't seem to be working for me (although most others had a completely unfunctional sunroof which is not my problem).

Does anyone have any other voo doo I can try?

Thanks for wading through this long post.

Okay, here is what VADIS says to do:
1. Press the sun roof switch so that the sun roof is in the tilt position. Release switch.
2. Press the switch (in the tilt position) in again for at least 5 seconds to that the sun roof closes. Release the switch. The calibration is complete.

If the sunroof has not moved to the correct position, carry out the calibration again. If the sun roof has still not moved to the correct position, press the sun roof switch so that the sun roof moves to the rearmost position (completely open). Release the switch. Press the switch (in completely open position) in again for at least 5 seconds so that the sun roof closes. Release the switch. Close the sun roof and carry out the first calibration again.

In other words, just keep messing with it. You'll eventually get it.
